T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, Ewan) TRIGC-KMANN, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Langerfeld, near Barmen, in the Province of l Vestpha-lia, Kingdom of Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Braiding-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to braiding machines of the type in which there are more bobbins than one for each plate of the machine. In the case of machines of this type it is a wellknown plan for the purpose of forming eyes within the texture, to provide some or all of the partial tracks with special auxiliary plates provided with devices for the formation of eyes. In this case the bobbins for the purpose of forming eyes are led out of the partial track and around the auxiliary plate and back again into the track toward the other bobbins the correct interval being left, whereas when no eye is to be formed they are conducted not around the auxiliary plate but instead of this around the well-known horseshoe-shaped junctionplate. The said auxiliary plates with the requisite switches render the machine very complicated and expensive.
The subject-matter of the patent applied for is a new braiding machine which is of the type having more bobbins than one for each plate, and which also is provided with devices for forming eyes, and in the case of which nevertheless the above-mentioned auxiliary plates and their switches are dispensed with, their drawbacks consequently being avoided. Said auxiliary plates and switches are dispensed with by the devices for forming the eyes being arranged at the places where the eyes are to be formed, that is, at the horseshoe-shaped plate and by the main plates appertaining thereto being provided with an arresting device. By this arrangement it is possible according as to whether temporarily an eye is to be formed or not to lead the bobbin either around the horseshoe-shaped junction-plate provided with the eye-forming device, or instead of this if an eye is not to be formed, along the shorter path around the main plate appertaining thereto, it being arrested for a corresponding length of time in the latter case for the purpose of reserving the correct interval between itself and the remaining bobbins.
One embodiment of a braiding machine having three bobbins to each plate is represented by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figures 1 and 2 show the bobbin motion within the partial track of a machine which has three bobbins to each plate and which is provided with a device for forming eyes in the well-known manner, a special auxiliary plate being employed. Figs 3 and ishow the course of a bobbin in the case of a machine arranged according to the invention with an ordinary partial track without auxiliary plates. Figs. 5 to 7 show the construction of one form of the arresting device itself. Figs. 8 to 1 1 show the positions of the bobbins at diflerent times for the purpose of elucidating the mode of operation, and Figs. 15 and 16 represent the eye forming device in side elevation and plan respectively.
In Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, one of the most common arrangements of the partial track of a machine having three bobbins to each plate is represented. The same as is well-known consists of two plates each of which. is composed of a n1ainplate (m (1. and of a horseshoe-shaped junction-plate (6 b and is connected by means of the transfer-plate (0 0 with the neighboring partial track. For the purpose of forming eyes there is arranged in a well known manner the auxiliary plate (Z which is provided with a device for forming eyes. The various bobbins in this case traverse within the partial track, if an eye is to be formed, the course indicated by dashes in Fig. 1, and in case an eye is not to be formed, the course indicated in Fig. 2, so that in the former case they are led around the auxiliary plate (Z carrying the device for forming eyes and in the latter case around the horseshoeshaped junction-plate Z) instead. Any available eye-forming mechanism may be used, its especial construction forming no part of my present invention. A convenient form is shown in Figs. 15 and 16 as applied to the ment, although in the latter case said standard is mounted on the junction plate 6, instead of on auxiliary'plate (Z, with which my invention dispenses.
In'contradistinction to the above, Figs. 3 and 1 show the course of the bobbins in the case of a'machine according to the present invention. In this case the auxiliary plates and their switches are dispensed with and the devicefor forming eyes is arranged on the horseshoe-shaped junction-plate Z), so that when the bobbin traverses the path indicated in Fig.3 an eye isformed. If an eye is not to be formed, the bobbin instead of being led around the horseshoe-shaped junction-plate is led directly around the main plate a as indicated in Fig. 1 and is moreover arrested for a suitable length of time by the driver being disengaged for therpurpose of preserving the correct interval between itself and the remaining bobbins, While a resilient stop simultaneously turns the-driver backward a little and consequently also the bobbin, in order that the newly arriving bobbin may be received correctly by the driver.
In Figs. 5 to 7 a form of the arresting device arranged on the main plate is sepa rately represented by way of example, Figs. 5 and 7 being part sectional elevations the driver being in and out of gear respectively, and Fig. 6 being a horizontal section on the line AA Fig. 5. f is a portion of the track-support and g a portion of the lower horizontal support of the braiding machine, said supports being connected together bythe pillar it. The driver 2' is arranged revolubly on the pillar and is capable of being displaced in the longitudinal direction of the latter and is provided in a 'well-known manner on. its under surface .is checked inits course and is rotated back- Ward slightly in. consequence of the springaetion, the said spring having previously yielded to the momentumof the driver and having been put under tension thereby. By this action, as already explained above, the driver is brought into the correct position in order to enable it to receive the newly arriving bobbin without disturbance.
In Figs. 8 to 14- the course of the bobbins when no eyes are to be formed is represented in more detail at the various moments. In this case the bobbin 1 instead of being led around the junction-plate 7) is conducted around the main-plate (t and is arrested by disengaging the driver at the instant when bobbin 3 has left the plate a, see Fig. 10. The driver is in this case checked by a resilient and specially arranged stop and is turned backward by the latter together with the bobbin 1 into the position indicated in Fig. 11, so that the newly arriving bobbin 2 can be correctly re ceived (Fig. 12), after which the driver is reengaged (Fig. 13) and all the bobbins run on at the correct distances from one another (Fig. 14).
The arrangement described for machines having three bobbins to each plate can of course be applied in a corresponding manner to machines having two, four or more bobbins to each plate, and the arrest of the bobbins instead of being effected by the disengagement of the drivers can be brought about in other suitable ways.
Having now explained the nature of my invention I declare that what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a b aiding machine adapted to form eyes in the braid, the combination of the bobbin carriers, means for driving them, the main plate, the junction plate, bobbin guides providing a course around these two plates or around the main plate only at will, eyeforming means carried by said junction plate and a resilient arresting device at the main plate, said device being adapted to turn back a little each bobbin carrier presented to it and the means for driving said bobbin carrier when the course is around the main plate only, thus compensating for the relative shortness of that course and maintaining proper intervals between the bobbin carriers.
