BRAiD ING-MACHINE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
" Patented May 11, 1909.
Application filed m 23, 1908. Serial No. 434,526.
To all h m it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, Or'ro PRANTE, a b l 0f the pe or of Germany, residing at lVest I-Ioboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented new and I Figure 1 is a plan view of a machine em bodying this invention. Fig. 2 is a section along 00 m Fig. l.
In the drawing are shown races or tracks for bobbins which travel along such races or tracks I) in top plate 7 as known. The drive wheels 0 are arranged in pairs each with two prongs or wings or engaging parts for driv-1 Each such gear 6 on the ing the bobbins. shaft of a driver pair has its members 0 0 connected by a driver d'to move in unison."
The sections of tracks between their respective crosslngs are of a certain length or ex tent to accommodate a pairof drive wheels 0.
At one side the sections of track are crossed.
by transverse tracks '0. A pattern thread guided by or through a tube f is brought between two tracks or clear of the tracks as the pattern thread is set inside or outside the paths of the main bobbins. If the pattern thread is led up inside the main track it is invisible or concealed in the braidbut when moved outside the main track the pattern thread is made to appear on the out'side'of the braid. Designs can thus be produced. As the bobbin is moved by a horn or part of a gear 0 it comes into reach of a transfer wing or arm 2' onaxle or fulcrum h of a transfer gear [0. j The transfer arm'c' as seen operates. only in connection with the upper track. By such transfer arm 2' the bobbin is moved to reach of the next succeeding horn gear 0 and so on about the various circuits. In each plate or circuit is shown one pair of horn gears and each pair is suitably spaced so as to allow entry into each circuit of a transverse track 6 without interfering with or striking either horn gear 0. Each pair 0 moves together or form practically one wheel. The transfer gear 70 is in mesh with one of a pair of horn gears 0 and a second transfer wheel d by its teeth 6 gears to both of said pair of wheels 0. Each wheel 0 is shown with two horns or bobbin engaging parts while gear 03 has three horns. But the invention is not limited. to this exact construction.
A jacquard mechanism (not shown) canset the pattern thread at suitable times and into and out of the space between the main tracks. The normal position of the pattern threadf is between the tracks b. Any suitably applied spring can. move the pattern thread-to normal position. The jacquard at suitable moments withdraws the pattern thread from inside to outside the tracks.
The pattern thread tube f can be moved back and forth along a slide or guide rod m secured at n to a plate 0 under the plate 7 having the tracks I). The carrier p of the tube f is slid on therod m by lever q fulcrumed at 'r' and moved by spring 8 in one direction. The connection or strap f pulled by jacquard (not shown) moves lever g the other way.
The pattern thread is led from a suitable bobbin 2 over guides or wires 3 and kept tight by. a slight weight such as a piece of wire 4; hung onto the pattern thread. Stop blocks 5 can beadjusted on rod m to limit the reciprocation of the thread tube f or its slide block 79.
What I claim is l. A braiding machine comprising bobbin tracks, a pair of spaced drivers inside the tracks, a transfer wheel geared to one of the drivers and havin an arm for moving a bobbin from one of the drivers to the other, another transfer wheel geared to both members of the driverpair, a track made to extend from within the first named tracks to the outside thereof and provided with a movable guide and a pattern thread carried by said movable guide.
2. A braiding machine comprising bobbin tracks, a pairof spaced drivers inside the tracks, a transfer wheel geared to one of the drivers and having an arm for moving a.
bobbin from one of the drivers to the other, another transfer wheel geared to both members of the driver pair, a track made to extend from within the first named tracks to the outside thereof and provided with a movable guide and a pattern thread carried by said movable guide, each of the spaced drivers having two horns and the second named transfer wheel having three horns.
8. A braid machine having races or paths for the braiding bobbins and a race for a pattern thread bobbin or thread holder, said pattern thread race being transverse to the other races, the driving Wheels for the bobv driving lever for moving the bobbin over the gap caused by the transverse track.
4. A. braid machine comprising driving Wheels arranged in pairs, a transfer or connecting device for the drivers at one side of the main track, a transverse track at the l i I i i t l other side of the main track, and a lever to drive a bobbin across the transverse track.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of. two subscribing Witnesses.
