C. J. WATROUS. FOOT SUPPORTER.

Zifl l j y-? gnaw 1&0:
C J. WF'TROU fr carton CARL J. WATROUS, OF MARION, GHIO.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 11, 1915. Serial No. 55,231.
'1 '0 lI/L m/wm u, may concern Be it known that I, CARL J. lVA'rRoUs, a citizen of the United States. residing at Marion, in the county of Marion and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful lmjn'ovements in Foot-Supporters, of
which the following is a. specification, reference being had ings. y
This invention relates to certain improvements in foot supports, and it is an object of-the invention to provide a devieeof this general character insertible within a shoe and having novel and improved means whereby an even wearing of the shoe results from the use thereof.
With a weak or croolt'qd ankle bone, even when so slight that it is pt noticeable, and with flattened outer arclngthe weight of the body is thrown on the outer side of the sole of the shoe and particularly on the cushion of the foot under the small toe which results in, the shoe running over. It is an obto the accompanying drawject of my invention to overcome this disadv a nta go.
The invention consist-s in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved foot supporter whereby certain vimportant advantages are attained and the device isrendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advanta- "coils for use, all as will be hereinafter more be carefully defined-inthe appendedclaim.
In order that my inventionanay be the better understood,- I willnow proceed to de-.
scribe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein v Figure 1 is a view in top plan illustrating a supporter constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention, the outline of the sole of a shoe being indicated by dotted lines Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken sub stantially on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Fig. 1. 7
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, my improved supporter comprises the body B preferably formed of leather and having its rear extremity of such a'contour as to snugly fit within vthe heel portion. of
the shoe with said body gradually reduced in thickness transversely so that the weight of the body will be properly distributed and the forward portion 2 of the body has one side provided with the extended portion 3 at the ticker side of the supporter adapted to extend forwardly of the shoe and terminateat that portion of the shoe which underlies the part of the ball of the foot' immediately adjacent the small toe, and it is to be observed that the transverse curvature of the forward end of the body is on substantially a sigmoidal curve so that the cushion of the large toe joint is permitted to rest directly on the sole of the shoe proper. It is also to be noted that the free end portion of the extended portion 3 is gradually re duced longitudinally in thickness so that no discomfort will be afforded to the wearer of the shoe. In practice, it has been found that my improved supporter serves to rest the cushion of the small toe joint and in this way throws the weight to the inside of the foot thereby relieving the pressure on the ball of the foot under the small toe joint thus distributing the weight more to the large toe joint and therebyassuring a more even wear upon the shoe.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a foot supporter constructed in accordance with my invention is ofan extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement With an extension, the forward edge of which is substantially sigmoidal in form, the forward edge of the supporter terminating rearwardly of the toe of the shoe so that the toes of the foot applied within the shoe may contact directly with the shoe, said sup- Patented June 20, 191d porter being graduelly reduced in thickness In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my transversely with the thicker edge disposed signature in the presence of two witnesses.
along the longer side of the extensien, the CARL J. KKTROUS. forward margin of the e tensi0n belng re- Nmnesses:
