MOSQUITO AND FLY STOP FOR WINDOWS.
Specification of Letters Patent. Paientd June 13, 1916.
Application filed July 28, 1914. Serial No. 853,782.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JAMES J. QUINN, a.v citizen of the United States, residing at 1613 Twelfth street, Eddystone, in the county of Delaware and State of Pennsyl- Vania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mosquito and Fly Stops for Windows, of which the following cation. A
This invention is an improved stop for use on the under side of an outer window sash to prevent flies and mosquitosfrom entering the room when the inner sash is raised part way and an ordinary fly screen is arranged below said inner sash, the object of the invention being to provide an improved article of this character which is extremely cheap and simple and whichmay be readily attached. to or detached from the lower side of the upper sash.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a horizontal sectional view of a window provided with a fly and mosquito stopconstructed in accordance with my invention, and looking upwardly. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same on the plane indicated by the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is 'a detail perspective view of the stop. Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view of a modified form of the stop. Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view of the same on the plane indicated by the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
For the purposes of this specification the sides of a window frame are indicated at l, the outer sash is indicated at 2 and the inner sash is indicated at 3.
In accordance with my invention I provide a wiper strip or bar 4 which in the form of my invention shown in Figs. 1 2-3 is made of rubber and in the form of my invention shown in Fig. 4 is formed by a wire screen strip 5. The wiper strip or bar is partly inserted between the upper and Y lower webs 67 of a sheet metal attaching bar 8 which is doubled and bent longitudinally so that a bight 9 is formed between the said web and which presents a rounded outer edge on said attaching bar. The webs 6-7 bear against each other for about halfway across the attaching bar from the outer side, as at 10 and the lower web 7 is is a specioffset as at 11 to form a space between said offset portion and the upper web 6 for .the reception of the wiper strip or bar 4. rI`he attaching barl is provided with openings for the reception of screws or other like devices 13 by means of which the attaching bar is securedto the lower side of the bottom bar of the upper, outer sash 2 so as to cause the inner edge of the inwardly extending wiper strip 4 to bear against the glass pane 14 of the inner sash. I-Ience the space between the sashes, when the lower sash is raised and a fly screen is placed thereunder, is closed by the wiper strip 4 and entrance of flies, mosquitos and other ynoxious insects is effectually prevented. .v
My improved fly andmosquito stop is extremely cheap and simple, is entirely effective and may be readily attached to or removed from a window.
In the form of my invention shown in Figs. 4 5 the attaching bar comprises a central portion 8a and end members 8b which are telescopically related thereto and may be adjusted to enable the bar to iit a window able frame bars, said bars comprising a cen- Y tral section having end sections telescoping therein, means for fastening said bars to the lower edgeof an outer'window sash, reticulated strips having the inner edgesV thereof secured to overlapping portions of said bars, and having the free edges thereofnor-Y `mally in contact with the glass pane of a '0- operating sash.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature 1n presence of twowitnesses.
JAMES J. QUINN.
