.-citizen of the l'nited States. residing at' which is objectionable because of the difficulty usually experienced in manipulating' such button to secure or release the collar, and foi' the further reason that such button frequently exerts annoying pressure upon vthe back of the neck and prevents the free sliding of the tie when adjusting and forming the same into a knot.

' The invention consists of a fastening which may be applied to any variety of collar, said fastening embodying a clip and a garment engaging member. the clip serving to secure the fastening to the collar and the garment engaging member being adapted to enter the pocketusnally formed at the back of a shirt band.

The invention, furthermore, consists of a fastening embodying a clip hav-ing a projection upon thev inner side of one oof the, gripping members to enter the. button hole at'the back of the collar oil to grip collar in a manner to prevent possib e slipping of the fastening, the closed end of the clip being of such form as to comfortably receive the lower edge of the collar without interfering with thev gripping action ofthe elements of the cli lVith these and) other objects in view, which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly claimed.

The fasten-ing is adapted to be applied to collars of different styles whether of the lav down or standing variety. In its gneral form the fastening embodies a clip and il garment engaging member, the several parts being preferably formed of a siigle piece of sheet material bent into the shape required.

`The garment engaging member 3 projects from the clip member 2 about in line therewith and is spaced trom the inner face of the collar so as to facilitate itsengagcinent with the garment to which the collar is to be attached. In the form of fastening shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing, the clip comprises members 1c and 2c and a garment engaging member 3", the latter being offset with respect. to the member 2.
