IMPROVEMENT IN SOLDERlNG-LAMPS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,653, dated August 29, 1871; antedated August 18, 1871.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. TALLMAN, of Amsterdam, in the county of Montgomery and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Jewelers Soldering-Inimp; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a jewelers soldering-lamp, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. I

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my lamp. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same with the lid thrown open, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged side view of one end of the lamp.

A represents the shell of the lamp, provided with a vertical partition, a, and a horizontal partition, b, near the top, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1. The chamber B, formed by the partitions a and b, and the corresponding portion of the shell A, constitutes the lamp proper, which is filled through the aperture 0?, shown in Fig. 2, while the chamber 0, on the other side of the vertical partition a, is for the purpose of holding water or diluted acid. On top of the partition I) are two other small partitions or flanges, e f, forming three spaces or apartments, one of which contains a slate, D, covering the orifice (I, said slate being for the purpose of grinding boraX. The other two apartments E E are for the purpose of holding solder, clamps, 850. At this end of the shell are-formed lips Gr, constituting a convenient receptacle for the piece of borax when not in use. From the lamp B a tube, H, leads outward and upward, said tube containing a large wick, 7, suitable for any work. On the end of the tube H is placed a cap, I, with a smaller tube at the end, through which is passed a smaller wick, h, to give a small blaze for light work. This is covered by another cap, J, as shown. The wick h in the cap I is fed by coming in contact with the large wick g. On the front of the shell A is a pocket, H, to contain matches. The entire shell is covered by the lid L, or I may make separate lids for the various compartments, or in some cases I may dispense with any lid for the whole or a part of the same. The additional cap I, with its wick h and cap J, may be applied to any soldering-lamp.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The cap I with small wick h, to be used in combination with the usual wick and wick-tube of a soldering-lamp, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.

2. The shell A, partitions a, b, e, and f, chambers B 0, slate D, lips G, pocket K, and tube H, with or without the lid L, all constructed and arranged substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes herein set forth.
