Description
L HEALEY.
Hydrants and Fire-Plugs.
Patented `June17, 18743.
INEEEE,
UNITED STATES JAMES I. HEALEY, OF BROOKLYN, .NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN` HVDRANTS AND FIRE-PLUGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,890, dated June 17, 1873 application led April 25, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES I. HEALEY, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hydrants and Fire- Plugs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention relates to an improvement in hydrants and fire-plugs; and it consists in dividing the stand-pipe into two or more water-chambers by means of a partition or partitions extending its whole length, and providing each chamber with its own valve and valve-rod and nozzle, so that they may be used independently or all together.
Figure l is a vertical section of my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross section of the same.
a represents an ordinary stand-pipe, provided with the cap c in the usual manner. Extending the full length of this stand-pipe is a partition, e, which divides it into two separate and distinct chambers, g t', each of which is provided with its own valve and valve-rod and nozzle, the valves and the devices for operating them being f any suitable kind.
By thus dividing the stand-pipe into two or more water-chambers, any one of them may be used independently of the others, or u JAMES I. HEALEY.
