Description
MASSAGE INSTRUMENT.
APPLICATION HLED MAR.3I;1916.
Patented May 30, 1916.
JOHN WINN BOND, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
MASSAGE INSTRUMENT Specification of Letters Patent.
Pat ented May 30, 1916.
Application filed March 31, 19M. Sena; r30. 88108i 0 all whom it may nomium 7 Be it known that Ii Joim \VINN Bonn, a citizen of the [Hutu i mates. residing at Providence, in the ruunty of Providenee and State of Rhode Island, have invented 21 new and useful Improvement in Message Instruments. of which the following: is. a specification. I
My invention has ielurenee in (IGYN'PS used in the operution of messaging the human body, and my prinripul object isto provide a device that will. apply rapid in: terunttent and alternating: pressure and su-rtiou to any part of the body. thereby pruduring the same or better result? than that obtained by the direct application of flu: fingers and finger tips of proiessioruil massei a rs.
Further objects of my invention are to construct a massage instrument so that the same may be used by both hands or by only one hand as desired, to rotatably support a plurality of rolls, each roll having alternating menus for sin'iuh ting the (nation of the ends of the fingers H1 exerting a pressure and for imn'iediutely relieving the pressure by su-tion applied to the parts, and by the .uee of a plurality of independently supported rolls the operatiuns oi pressure and \urtiou are continually varying, rel tive to the surfaee of the body.
My invention consists in the peculiar and novel in istruetion of nuusuging instrumerit said massaging instrument having the tails of emstruction as will be more fu ly set forth hereinafter and eiaimezi l igure, i is u fuse wow i my improved iongitumassaging iiistruiuenn 1 1;: 2 Ti 5} diuul seetionul when an line. 1 2. Fig. l. sho ng t, instrument in for the use of both hands i HUM Q lmnu brought together ii: for use with one hand F2 verse sectional v v timer; the rolls. Fig. 4 is en ei tionnl VlBW =21, 2i modified ing the re en sex-"tum dupe in the and Fig. i-s our. eniniged detail sertionnl view of a modified means for securing the resilient i'in -"r ends t the rolls.
In the dru i shaped open and ends secured to eneh r A stationary shaft 1. end in the ends 8. 8. the from: and. on
a uni; tor Seen 27 is,
having: the a iiizliiflik this shaft 11 is rotntubly supported, a plurality of hollow resilientrubher roils 12. 12. Eneh roll has :1 metal l -nshing 13 formiug =1 reruluble bearing on the stationary shaft 11 :1 rireulur cavity 14, a series of senri spherieal peripheral resilient rubber linger tips 15. and a series of interme- (hate peripheral resilient rubber suction rups 11'}. 1G. shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
The finger tips 15. 15. and the suction cups 16. It are preferably formed of soft rubber integral with the com} aratively soft rubber rolls 12, they may be formed separate and eemeuted to the roll or they may be. ennst urted with a metal shank l7 having: :1 head 1'22 embedded in the finger tips or eurtion cup and nicone shaped end 19 and secured to the roll by forcing the metal stem through a peripheral hole 20 in the roll. as shown in Figs. 4 and The peripheral wall and side Walls of the rolls are made sufiioiently thick for strength and so that apredetermined amount of resiliency obtained in the rolls, which will immediately assume their original form when the pressure is removed .Yhen in w the banding of my improved massage instrument. are grasped by the bands and the rolis under pressure, rolled back and forth over the abdomen or other parts of the body, or the handles may he brolwht together as shown in dotted lines in Fig. '2 and the instrument used with one hand. The resilient rolls conf rm to the curvature o the body and under pressure the finger tips indent the flesh and the sun-- ti n cups r eve or pull out the indentured flesh or skin and this intermittent action of the finger tips and sur; cups mntrrinll tester mid. far:- superior than couid he by hun'ian i i :1 piuiulity ei Quiet 'iuinzuted rolis. u tions are continually varying relative to the surface 0 body that is being masse zed.
it is evident that the ooi'istruetion of my improved instrument could be iuriezl wu'hin me scope ot the appended claims.
extending peripheral suction cups on tize 2. A massage instrument frame, handles pivotally frame, a resilient roll rotatably supported in the frame, and a continuous series of outwardly extending peripheral suction cups on the roll.
3. A massage instrument comprising a frame, oppositely disposed handles pivotally secured to the frame, a resilient roll rotatably supported in the frame, a series of peripheral resilient finger tips on the roll and a series ofintermediate peripheral suetion cups on the roll.
4. A massage instrument comprising a. frame, oppositely disposed handles pivotally secured to the frame, a resilient roll rotatably supported in the frame, a series of peripheral resilient finger tips on the roll and a series of intermediate peripheral suction cups on the roll, said suction cups extending outwardly beyond the finger tips.
5. A massage instrument comprising a frame, oppositely disposed handles pivotally secured to the frame, a resilient roll rotatably supported in the frame, a series of semi-spherical resilient finger tips on the periphery of the roll mediate suction cups on the periphery of the roll, said suction cups extending outwardly beyond the finger tips.
6. A massage instrument comprising a frame, oppositely disposed handles pivotaily connected to the frame, a, plurality of resilient rolls rotatably' supported in the m of this patent comprising a secured to the inger tips on its and a series of inter may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of frame. each roii having a we, of
