Be it known that I, VVILLI'AM C. HEDG- COCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and V useful Improvements in Brake-Beams, of

which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to railway brakes, and has particular reference to a novel brake'beam.
In the use of certain types of brake arrangements it is common to provide brake riggings which are duplicated on each side.
of the truck, whereby the pull is a point'blose to the brake heads, being connected by a beam or bar.
An object in provide a beam adapted for the use referred to, which shall combine the elements of simand adaptability applied. at the heads vide means in connection therewith for supporting the beam and the rigging.
The beam is illustrated in its association co-pending applicafiled March 2, 1916. more readily underconstructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. '2 is an edge elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is an end elevation thereof. Referring more particularly to the drawiffgs. it will be seen that the beam in its preferrg'd embodiment is of generally I-beam shape in cross section and comprises a web 10. and the flanges 11. The beam terminates at i'ts ends in trunnions 12, which are shown as'designed to accommodate an angularly adjustable brake head 13. It will be readily apparent, however, that the essence of my inreside in the integral casting, but in the conception of a'simple. beam of this type which shall provide for the 1 connection of the pulling levers at points close to the brake heads, and for a supporting means at a point near the longitudinal center line of the truck; that is, ata point midway of the length of the beam. Obviously also the head may not be adjustable,
and other modifications may be made in the constructlon shown, all wlthout departure from the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
1. A brake beam, comprising a bar providing mountings at its ends for brake heads, and three sets of attaching lugs projecting laterally from said beam, the sets of lugs n zgar the end of the beam providing for theconnection of brake levers, the intermediate lugs providing for the attachment of a supporting device, substantially as described.
2. A brake beam, comprising a bar, the ends of which are adapted to be secured in brake heads, a brake lever pulling lug located near each end of and projecting liaterally from said bar, and a supporting ug located at substantially the middle of the WILLIAM G. HEDGCOCK.
