cleaning the hard scale from Water tube boilers.
Such service is very severe and the object of my invention is to provide an improved cleaner simple, efficient and durable that will withstand the shocks and jars incident to this heavy duty.
My attention has been especially directed to improving means for pivoting the cutter carrying arms to the body whereby freedom of movement, ease of assembling and disassembling and durability are combined.
With these and other objects in View my invention consists of the constructions and combinations hereinafter described and set forth in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of a tube cleaner embodying my invention taken 011 the line 11 of Fig. 3. Fig. 2 is a like section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 3 and Fig. 3 is a cross-section taken on the line 83 of Fig. 1.

In the drawings 1 represents a body havingafronthead2 and a rear head 3, the respective heads having a plurality of oppositely disposed bores 4:. Said heads are cut away so as to leave a lateral opening 5 for each of said bores and to form stops 6 and 7. A plurality of pairs of arms 8 are provided and each pair is joined together by a pivotal portion 9 preferably formed integrally therewith. The pivotal portions 9 of the arms 8 are introduced from the rear through the bores 4 in the rear head and eX tend into the oppositely disposed bores of the front head. The arms project through the lateral openings 5 in the bores and are free to swing between the limits of the stops 6 and 7.
The bores 4 in the front head terminate within the head and form stops 10 to prevent forward movement of the arms and the arms are held against rearward movement by a coupllng member 11 screw-threaded to a rearward extension 12 of the body and e11- gaglng the pivotal. portions 9 of the arms. The screw-threadedend of the coupling extends beyond the extension 12 of the body for attachment of the driving shaft. Bolts 13 having heads 14 extend through openings in the free end of the front arm of each pair of arms and are screw-threaded to the rear arms as shown. Rotary cutters 15 are mounted on the bolts between the arms and also between the front head 2 and the bolt heads 14. The joining of each pair of arms by a portion forming a pivot therefor gives a strong, simple construction and it' will be further noted the lateral openings 5 permit each pair of arms to be spaced farther apart so that a greater number of cutters can be employed between the heads thus giving a greater cutting capacity in a head of given bores, each bore being of uniform diameter and having a lateral opening throughout its length, arms pivoted in and held from radial movement by the walls of said bore and projecting through said lateral openings, cutters mounted on said arms and means to keep said arms from longitudinal movement, substantially as described.

In a tube cleaner, a rotary body having a plurality of longitudinally extending bores with lateral openings throughout their length, arms having pivotal portions adapted to turn in and to be held from radial movement by the walls of said bores, with the arms projecting through said lateral openings, permitting the arms to swing of uniform diameter and having .a lateral opening throughout its: length, arms having pivotal portions formed integrally therewith, "the opposite ends of said portions being pivoted in and held from radial movement by the oppositely disposed bores of the respective heads, said arms projecting through and limited in their swinging' movement by said lateral openings, cutters mounted on the free ends of said arms and means to prevent the longitudinal movement ofsaid arms, substantially as described. In a tube cleaner, a rotary'body having a longitudinally extending bore with a lateral opening, an arm having a pivotal portion formed along its inner edge-adapted to fit and be heldfrom radial movement by the Wall of said bore, said arm projecting through said lateral opening and having cutters on its outer or free end and means to prevent the longitudinal movement of said arm, substantially as described.
6. In a tube cleaner, a rotary body having front and rear heads with a plurality of oppositely disposed bores in the respective heads, each of said bores having a lateral opening, a plurality of pairs of arms, each pair being joined by a pivotal portion adapted to fit and be held from radial movement by the walls of the oppositely disposed bores in the respective heads, said arms projecting through said lateral openings and having cutters mounted on the free ends thereof and means to prevent the longitudinal movement of saidarms, substantially as described.
