FILING-CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed November 16, 1914. Serial No. 872,291.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES F. MEILINK, a' citizen of the United States of America, residing at Toledo, Lucas county, Ohio, have invented new and useful F iling-Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to guides or carriers for relatively reciprocable members.
This invention-has utility when incorporated as a supporter extension guide for drawers, asvertical file drawers in `metal furniture.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention in a minimum si'ze or single drawer vertical file unit, with the drawer closed or housed in the case; Fig. 2 is a side elevation, with parts broken away, showing the drawer open, or at`its outward limit of travel; Fig.v 3 is a fragmentary detail, on an enlarged scale, on the line III-JH, Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow.; Fig. 4 is a view on the line IVMIV, Fig. 1, on an enlarged scale looking in the direction of the arrow, and Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line V-V, Fig. 1, 100king in the direction of the arrow.
The case comprises the top wall 1, the side walls 2, the back wall 3, and the bottom wall or side 4. This rectangular case has vertically disposed stidening angles 6 in each corner thereof, providing in this otherwise skeleton structure' considerable rigidity.
Disposed along each side of the case is a track carrier member having the upper portion 7 contacting the case side 2 above the carrier member channel portion 8, downward from which channel portion 8 extends the case side contacting portion 9 to the flanged portion 10 of the carrier member contacting the bottom side 4 of the case. These members may be mounted xedly in the case or housing by the electric spot weldings 11 therealong, and similar weldings 11 may serve to unite the case sides and angles in the assembled structure.
The case or fixed track 12 may be firmly attached to the case by the screws 13 mounting this track member 12 on the channel track carrier member.
Movable in and out relatively to the case or supporting member is the drawer or member to be carried 14, having along its sides the channels 15. Adjacent this channel section 15 on each side of the drawer 14 are the tracks 16, Xedly mounted in positlon thereon by the screws 13 to hold a pair of tracks 16 in a iplane with an intermedlate track 12. Disposed out of the plane of these tracks groups of threes, vare the traveling guides 17. The guide17 hat centrally thereof the pair of opposing grooved traction rollers 18 contacting two of the four trackways provided by the three tracks 12, 16, and but slightly clearing the other two of said Ways, so that as the position of, the drawer as tothe case changes these rollers 18 may have tractive action on any two of the four trackways. f
Near the upper forward end of the guide 17 is a third traction roller 18, grooved, and a fourth such roller 18 near the after lower portion of the guide. The forward lower portion of the guide 17 carries the:
grooved guide roller 19, while the after upper portion of the ide 17 carries a second guide roller 19. gfhese guide rollers 19 normally function only as guides by having their flanges coact with the tracks to maintain the members in proper relative alinement, but in lifting the forward end of the drawer, these guide rollers 19 may then additionally serve as anti-friction devices. The guide 17 is the carrier for the grooved rollers which provide the antifriction extension travel for the drawer as to the case.
The detachable independent tracks are of nished rigid material which may be installed after the caseand drawer are completed through the coatings, enamelings and baking processes. The trackways are accordingly clean and there is no occasion in the normal finishing of the case before installation of the track ways to exerciseI care in omitting to coat any portion, so dipping may occur ifdesired. The trackways may accordingly be accurately alined upon assem-f bling, thereby insuring a nicety of positioning for continued easy operation throughout the entirev life of the structure. There is thus no occasion for binding and incidental rough usage in operation, and the device is a permanent utility. A
The location of the tracks at stifened points provides ample strength for carrying loads greatly in excess of any normally required for the structures. The drawer channel 15 makes the drawer sides stiff at the loaded points carrying the tracks 16. The carrier member channel 8 makes the case stiif not only along the sides 2, but in the unit structure of the carrier member extendi ing to the second case side 4, there is distribution of load to this second side 4 as well as incidental stii'ening of the side 2 against any weaving or warping.`
To limit the relative travel of the drawer .as to the case the gravity dog 20 is disposed to ride along the upper way of the track 12 what is Claimed anda is desired to se;
cure by` Letters Patent is y 1. A casing member, a drawer member, one of said members having a channel providing opposing tracks, and the other member having a track extending between the opposing tracks of the channel, a guidemovable relatively to the members, and means including rollers on the guide interposed between the tracks for moving the guide out of the casing to a determined position; for sustaining the drawer inextended position.
2. A- casing member .having extendingA therefrom means providing a track, a drawer member providing a -pair of `embracing tracks, a guide movable .relatively to the members, and means includin rollers on the guide interposed between the t acks for movting the guide out of the casing to a detervon the guide coacting with the tracks for moving the guide out ofthe casing to a determined position for sustaining the' 'drawer In extended posltlon.
4. A drawer member having a channel vprovidmg opposing tracks, a casing member having extendmg therefrom means provld- 'ing a track extending between the opposing tracks of the channel, a guide movable relatively to the members and disposed in said channel, and means including rollers on the guidel interposed between the tracks for movmg the guide out of the casing to a determined position ,for sustaining the drawer in extended position.
5. A casing member, a drawer member, one of said members providing opposing tracks and the other member having a track extending between the opposing tracks, a guide movable relatively to; the members, rollers on the guide interposed .between the tracks-and means for limiting the travel. of the guide Out of the casing to a determined position for-sustaining the drawer in extended position lincluding dogs disposed adjacent said tracks.
In witness whereof I aiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
