ORE configura-Aron A ND'CLAssI-Frna.
UBe it known that I, FREDERICK Hun'- BELL, a citizen ofthe United States, resid ing; inthe city and: county of San Francisco, State tof California, have invented a Y new Iand vuseful'Ore Goncentratorand Classiiier, of which the following isa specification.
Myinvention relates to improvements in ore concentrators, andv is adapted to both placer and quartz mining operations. v
The object of my inventiongistoprovide an ore concentrator and classifier wherein placer lgravel, or combined v4pulverized. rock.
and their other contained metallic constituents are automatically separated, and classified each gravity mineral by itself, and each gravity mineral automatically recovered by itself. I attain these objects by the .mechanism illustrated in the accomf panying drawings, in whichf chine.
Figure 1, is a top view of the entire mafier consists essentially of a shallow pan, 1,`
wherein the sides 2, 3 and the bottom, 4, slope to a common point, 5 at the bottom of said pan, 1, said point 5 being in the usual construction of pan,1, about one-third pan length distance, more or less, from a given edge or end, G, of pan 1.
One or more transverse partitions, 7, 8, 9, divide the pan, 1 into compartments 10, 11, 12. The partition, 7, nearest the edge or end, 6, of pan, 1 has atits lowest edge` and at the center of said partition an opening 13, .connecting one f compartment, 10, with another compartment, 11. rlhe transverse partition 8, next succeeding this has a similar opening, 14,- or slot extendingto a greater height than the opening, 13, inthe first partition, 7, mentioned and -the next succeeding transverse partition, 9, has a similar opening, 15, and successively higher than the .011e immediately preceding, .and

ridges, 16, 17,18, 19, 20, runningalor;gtthe.y sloping bottom 4,` of the pan .2.1, starting, from the'end, 21 ofthe pan, 11,fai id perpendicular ,to the transverse partitions, 7 9, said ridges 16, 17, 18, 19, 20sloping-ro ndi-f ing. in bevel to theV sides of pan, 1.,- sloping sides 0f compartmentsflQ, "g1 formed by transverse partitions,y 7,Q8,S`), l`- A-ej openings, 22, 23, 24, leading intoeparate compartments of a stationary box, 25, connected therewith by freely-movingiflexible 31, of stationary box, 25, are small bucket elevators, 32, 33, 34, for discharging the contents thereof. The shallow pan, 1, is suspended in a suitable manner from supporting posts or standards 35, 36, 37, 38, so that oscillations may be imparted to the same ktransversely by suitable mechanism, 39. l
The operation of my improved ore concentrator and classifier is as follows: When sand, gravel, or mill. pulp .is conveyed through feed box 40, to pan 1, just in front of the series oftransverse partitions 7, 8, 9, the oscillating motion of pan 1, combined with the sloping sides of ridges 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, causes a settling of the heavy comlponents of said sand, gravel or pulp and the water fed with the material causes a flowing away of 'the lighter material through ythe lower or discharge end, 21, of pan 1, opposite transverse partitions 7, 8, 9. Each different gravity mineral separates and stratifies at the bottom of pan 1, and the different openings 13, 14, 15, at the lower edges of transverse partitions 7 8, 9, permit the classified deliveryY of different .gravity concentrates by reason of the diiference in height of` these different openings 13, 14, 15, in each Gtransverse partition 7, 8
9. The result isV that the compartment, 10,
' farthest from discharge end, 21, of pan l,
will carry the heaviest gravity material; the next succeeding compartment, 11, will carry the next heaviest gravity material, and so on. The openings 22, 23, 24, in sloping sides of compartments 10, 11, 12, regulate the height to which the classified material `in any given compartment shall rise, and as it rises to level of openings 22, 23, 24,- the oscillating motion of pan, 1, causes the 110 Y Compartment 29,0 30 or 31,-i1ftl1ef Y "i cl'eied jmatiizil the 00mntiethiiients,-VA 11, "12,110 'drQpi-into ,and jbesliaken th tsindiyidualf tubing,l 26, 27501'2 v the oscillatingpan, 1*',l'thi0u'glithe connect-1 ying tubes 26', 27, 28, thufcausng nqfcu'rrent' yture'in presence ofltwo witnesses.
