Description

J. C. KING.
CANDLESTICK.
APPLICATION HLED 1150.13. 1915.
Patented May 16, 1916.
2 SHEETS-SHEET 2.
JOI-IN C. KING, OF DALBY, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA.
CANDLESTICK.
Application filed. December. 13, 1915. Serial No. 66,660.
to support, in addition to a candle, an Ordirnary transparent lamp chimney, whereby the candle will be protected from drafts,
thereby permitting it to burn evenly and without guttering. A
A further object of the invention is to produce a candle stick having a chimney holding attachment which may be conveniently applied or detached, as may be desired.
Afurther object of the invention is to produce a chimney holding device which may be readily applied to an ordinary candle stick.
A further object of the invention is to produce a combined chimney and candle supporting device which may be readily applied to and used in connection with an ordinary candle stick.
A further object of the invention is to produce a chimney and candle holding attachment which may be readily applied to and used in connection with an ordinary candle stick, the said attachment being provided with means whereby it will be temporarily connected with the candle stick so as to avoid its being accidentally displaced.
With these and otherends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts whichV will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings has been illustrated a simple and kpreferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made'to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired. y
In the drawings,-Figure 1 is a top plan view of a Candlestick adapted to have one form of the invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the candle and chimney holding attachment for said candle Specification of Letters Patent.

Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing another form of the invention. F ig. 6y is a side elevation showing the same applied to a candle stick.
Fig. 7 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 7 7 in Fig. 6. Fig. 8 is a perspective view showing a candle stick provided with another form of al chimney 'holding attachment. v
Corresponding parts inthe several figures are denoted by like charactersof reference. The candle stick A shown in Figs. 1 to 4, inclusive, includes a base 15 and a tubular upright 16 having at its upper end an approximately horizontal flange 17 f' provided with an arcuate keyhole slot 18, the same being concentric with the aXis of the tubular upright. The latter is adapted to receive aV tubular socket member 19 having at its upper edge a flange 2O which is pro.
, vided with adownwardlyextending headed stud 21 adapted to engage the' keyhole slot 18 when the parts are assembled, it being evident that by slightly rotating the tubular socket member about its aXis the headed stud will interlock with the keyhole slot, thus securing the parts in assembled relation. The flange 2O ofthe socket member is provided at the circumference thereof with upwardly extending resilient fingers 22, the same being slightly curved in an outward direction at their upper ends for ready engagement with an ordinary lamp chimney, indicated at 23. It is obvious that the chimney thus mounted on the candle stickand surrounding the candle, which is shownl at 24, will protect the flame of the latter, thereby causing `the candle to burn evenly and without running or guttering. A
Under the modified construction illustrated in Figs. 5 to 7, inclusive, the candle stick, here designated by B, is composed of a base 25 having an upwardly projecting socket member 26 to receive a candle, said socket member being 'provided with a circumferential flange 27. The socket 26v is adapted to receive a detachable socket mem-y ber 28 having aV circumferentialV flanger 29 with upwardlyl extending chimney retaining Vfingers 30. The` flange 29 is provided with vdownwardly extending'resilient catch members 31 adapted to engage' the perimeter of the flange 27', thereby retaining the parts in assembled relation. v
Under the modification illustrated in Fig. 8, the candle stick, here designated by C, is provided with a candle receiving socket 32 having a circumferential flange 83 which isprovided with upwardly extending chimneyrretainingjfingers 34. In this form of theinvention it will be seen that the candle 'stick is permanently prepared and adapted to vreceive and supporta lamp chimney, there being no necessity for any detachable member whatever.
`It' is obvious that the modifications herein shown and described do not by any means illustrate all the possible forms of this in- -vention Means di'erent from those here- -avoiding the waste usually caused by running or guttering candles. v
The devicemay be carried from place to place with much greater safetyV than an oil lamp or yan unprotected candle, andY while being thus carried the flame of the lamp Gopies of ythis patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, n
will burn as steadily as if the device were i left stationary.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
l. A candle stick having a tubular socketr l 2. A candle stick having a tubular socket provided with a circumferential ila-nge, an auxiliary candle receiving socket engaging the tubular socket and having ya circuniferential flange, chimney retaining fingers projecting upwardly from the flange of the auxiliary socket, and interlocking means associated with the flanges ofthe two sockets for retaining the parts in assembled relation, said interlocking means comprising a keyhole slot in one flange and a headed stud on theother flange to engage the said key- Lhole slot.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.y
