To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES B. BLACK- SHEAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Morrilton, in the county of Conway and State of Arkansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Plates, of which the following is a specification.

This invention is an improved shoe plate or fender for use on the sole of a shoe, the object of the invention being to provide an improved fender of this character which is pliable so as not to interfere with the bending of the sole in walking and which can be adjusted to fit a shoe of any size and can be very readily and cheaply manufactured of copper, brassfsteel or other suitable material.

The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a plan of a shoe plate or fender constructed in accordance with my invention, showing the same attached to the sole of a shoe. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan of the fender, showing its parts detached from each other.

My improved fender or sole plate comprises a pair of members 1 which may be made of copper, brass, steel or other suitable material and which are relatively thin so as to be easily bent. Each member 1 comprises a curved outer bar 2 which conforms in shape with one side of the sole, a pair of end bars or arms 3 being supplied with intermediate bars or arms 4;. The members are arranged in overlapping relation with their arms in mutual engagement, the arms of one member lying on those of the other memher and the arms of the members are provided with openings 5 at regular spaced distances so that when the members are ar ranged on a shoe sole the said openings of the members register and the members may be secured to the sole by tacks which pass through said openings and hence also secure the members together as well as serving to secure them to the sole. The outer bars 2 of the members are also provided with open ings 6 for the reception of securing tacks.

It will be understood from the foregoing that the fender may be adjusted to fit a shoe of any size. In practice, in the manufacture of the fenders or plates they will be made of various sizes for use on childrens, womens and mens shoes.

Having thus described my invention, I claim A shoe plate of the class described comprising a pair of members each having an outer bar corresponding to the shape of the adjacent edge of a sole and also having transversely arranged ends and intermediate arms formed integral with the members, the arms of one member arranged to lie in flat engagement with and extend to the opposite edge of a shoe sole where their extremities may be arranged under the bar of the other member, the arms of the other member arranged to lie in flat contact with and extend the length of the arms of the first member and have their extremities secured to spaced portions of the bar of said first member.
