Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLARD H. BUNDY, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Time-Recorder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to time recorders and has for its object a particularly simple and eflicient indicating mechanism movable in synchronism with other movable parts of the recorder, and itconsists in the combinations and constructions hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In describing this invention reference is had to the accompanying drawing in which like characters designate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figures 1 and 2 are respectively front and side elevations of a time recorder embodying my invention, parts not pertinent to this invention being removed. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the indicating mechanism showing the same in rear elevation.
I have here illustrated my invention as embodied in a card time recorder having a movable card abutment actuated periodically by the time movement; and the time recorder here illustrated comprises a card receiver, a shiftable abutment in the card receiver, an indicator movable in synchronism with the abutment, an actuating element adapted to be connected to the time movement, and power -transmitting means between the actuating element and the abutment and the indicator.

6 is an abutment carriage movable in the card receiver and carrying an abutment 7.
8 is an indicator member, here shown as a rotatable disk supported by an upwardly extending plate 9 having asight opening 10 therein through which the indicator member 8 is exposed, the indicator member moving periodically in synchronism with the abutment which, as will be well understood by those skilled in the art, is shifted at regular intervals either by hand or by the time movement, for determining the depth to which the card can be inserted in the receiver in order that the registrations for the several days of the week will be arranged in different columns or rows.
The card abutment 7, here shown, is movable relatively to its carriage 6 by the card in order to operate certain mechanism which normally holds the operating handle from operation until the card is inserted to its full extent into the card receiver. This mechanism forms no part of this invention and hence further description is thought to be unnecessary.
12 is an actuating element here illustrated as carried by a type wheel carriage 13 supported on cross bars 14 extending between the side plates 2, 3, said element being, in
this embodiment of my invention, actuated from a clock movement through a suitable shaft 15 adapted to be connected to the time movement in any suitable manner. actuating element 12 includes a shaft extending through the side plate 3 on which the indicator is supported, and having a driving power-transmitting part or member 16 at its outerend.
The power-transmitting means between the actuating element and the abutment 7, comprises a rotating driven part or member as a cam 17 mounted on a shaft 18 journaled in the side plates and extending to the outside of the plate 3, and having a driven power transmitting member as a ratchet wheel 19 at its outer end.
The power-transmitting means between the actuating element and the indicator member, includes a power-transmitting part as a ratchet wheel 20 connected to the indicator member 8 for rotating the same.
The means for actuating the driven power-transmitting parts or members as the ratchet wheels'19, 20, comprises an actuator as a rocking lever 21 common to the abutment 7 and the indicator member 8, and pivoted at 22 to the outer face of the side plate 3, and having a pin or wiper 23 at its free end which coacts with the driving powertransmitting part or scroll cam 16. The lever is held in engagement with the cam by a spring 2 1 and is rocked about its pivot by the cam against the action of such spring. Said lever is connected to the ratchet wheels 19, 20 by means of links 25, 26 pivoted thereto and extending in opposite directions there- The from and having pawl teeth 27, 28 at their ends coacting respectively with the ratchet wheels 19, 20.
Spring pressed detents 29 and 30 are provided for preventing retrograde movement of the ratchet wheels and parts actuated thereby; and the links 25, 26 are yieldingly held in operative position by springs 31, 32.
In operation, as the shaft 15 and cam 16 are turned by the clock movement, the lever 21 is raised against the action of its spring 24, gradually moving the links 25, 26 so that the pawl teeth 27 and 28 thereof take hold of new teeth of the ratchet wheels 19 and 20. When the wiper or pin 23 of the lever 21 falls from the high to the low part of the cam, obviously the links will be actuated and turn the ratchet wheels 19, 20 one step, thus raising the abutment 7 through cam 17 and turning the disk 8 bringing a new portion thereof to the sight opening 10.
This mechanism is particularly advantageous in that it consists of but a few simple parts which are readily placed in position and which can not easily get out of order.
What I claim is:
1. In a time recorder, a card receiver, a shiftable abutment in the card receiver, an indicator member movable in synchronism with the abutment, a rocking arm, means for rocking the arm once during each advance of the indicator, comprising a clock actuated member, and a train of operating mechanism interposed between. the rocking arm and the abutment and indicator member, respectively, each train of mechanism including an element connected directly to the rocking arm, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. In a time recorder, a card receiver, a shiftable abutment in the receiver, an indicator member movable in synchronism with the abutment, a rocking arm, a spring for moving the same in one direction, a clock actuated cam for moving the arm in an opposite direction and operating to actuate said arm once during each advance of the indicator, two links connected directly to the rocking arm, means operated by one link for actuating the abutment, and means operated by the other link for actuating the indicator member. substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. In a time recorder, a card receiver, a
shiftable abutment in the card receiver, an indicator member movable in synchronism with the abutment, a rocking arm connected to the abutment, a cam operating on said arm for controlling the position thereof, a ratchet wheel associated with the said cam, a second ratchet wheel associated with the indicator member, a second rocking arm, a second cam controlling the position thereof, and corresponding mechanism interposed between said second-mentioned arm and each of said ratchet wheels, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
4. In a time recorder, a card receiver, a shiftable abutment in the card receiver, means for shifting the card receiver, an indictor member movable in synchronism with the abutment, a rotating actuating element, a scroll cam actuated by said element, a rocking lever coacting with the cam, and being actuated thereby in one direction, a
spring for actuating the rock arm in the other direction, the cam and spring operating to oscillate the lever once during each advance of the abutment and the indicator, and means connecting the lever and the abutment shifting means and the indicator member, the two last-mentioned means compris ing links extending in opposite directions from the lever, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
5. In a time recorder, a card receiver, a shiftable abutment in the card receiver, an indicator member movable in synchronism with the abutment, a rotating actuating element including a cam, a rocking lever c0- acting with the cam and actuated thereby, ratchet wheels connected respectively to the abutment and the indicator member, and means connecting the lever and the ratchet wheels respectively, said means including pawlS for coacting respectively with the ratchet wheels, the connecting means extending in opposite directions from the lever, substantially as and for the purpose described.
