Description
A. D. CONVERSE.
PANORAMA DRUM.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 1|. 1915.
Patented May16, 1916.
Inventor: JiUwrZnnD. (Jmwer THE COLUMBIA PLANOGRAPH 50.. WASHINGTON, D. c.
ATHERTON D. CONVERSE, 0F WIETC-HEN1'.)ON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IPANORAMA-DRUM.
Application filed May 11, 1915. Serial No. 27,694.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ATHERTON D. CON- VERSE, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of WVinchendon, in the county of lVorcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Panorama-Drums, of which the following is specification.
This invention relates to toy. drums, and has for its object the production of a device of this character which will have an additional attraction for children by being provided with a mechanism whereby'a plurality of pictures may be successively positioned opposite an opening in its cylindrical shell.
The invention consists of a drum having an opening in its cylindrical shell and provided with a strip with a plurality of pictures thereon located within the shell and adapted to be rotated relatively thereto in order to position either of said pictures opposite said opening.
.The invention further consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be fully understood by reference to the description of the drawings and to the claim hereinafter given.
Of the drawings: Figure 1 represents an elevation of a drum embodying the principles of the present invention and showing portions of the shell broken away, and Fig. 2 represents a. vertical section of the same.
Similar characters designate like parts throughout the figures of the drawing.
In the drawings, 10 is the cylindrical shell of a drum having the usual heads 11 and 12. Within the shell 10 is a circular disk 13 provided with a member 14, the reduced end 15 of which extends through a central opening 16 in the head 12. The disk '13 may be rotated about its axis by means of the member 14, the shoulder 17 thereon serving to retain the saiddisk 13- in close proximity to the inner face of the head'12. Secured to the periphery of the disk 13 and extending upwardly therefrom is a strip 18 forming a cylinder, the outer wall of which is provided with a plurality of pictures 19.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 16, 1916.
The cylindrical shell 10 is provided with an opening 20 therein somewhat smaller than the pictures 19. By means of the member 14 the cylinder 18-may be moved to position either of the pictures 19 opposite the opening 20 through which said picture will be exposed to view; The strip or cylinder 18 is also provided "with a plurality of small perforations 21 therein by means of which the said cylinderamay be moved by inserting a member such as a penciLtherein and moving it from .one edge of the opening 20 to its opposite edge. Preferably the cylinder 18 extends nearly to the inner face of the head 11 thereby preventing end movement thereof parallel to its axis. The member 14. does not extendbelow the rim 22 and therefore is not in view when the drum is in use.
The inclusion of the panorama cylinder inside of the drum does not in any way effect the operation of the drum and is an additional attraction for children, for by turning the cylinder 18 a new picture may be exposed to view, thus changing the appearance of the outer face of the drum.
It is believed that the operation and many advantages of this invention will be fully apparent from the foregoing description.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
In a device of the class described, the combination'of a cylindrical shell having an opening therein; a head at each end of said shell; a revoluble cylinder extending from head to head within said shell and having on its periphery a plurality of pictures adapted to'register with said opening; and means coacting with onehead only for positioning said cylinder within said shell and preventing its contact with said heads and shell.
