vthe lever 23 to the lever 18 against two sets of spaced pins 29 and adjusting screws 30 which are positioned to each side of the longitudinal center of lever 23, as 1s clearly Yshown in Fig. 8. Saw supporting lever 23 has a longitudinally adjustable end 31 fitted to the outside ofsaid lever and held in position thereon by set-screw 32. n To each end of lever 23 1s secured an upkriagght'tubular 'saw-guide support 33 having a threaded end `34 extending through the lever and secured thereto by nut 35. Saw guides 36 are mounted on each of said supports and carry in their lower ends a frictionrdog 37 (Fig. 5) movable transversely` in the guide and held yieldingly against the side of support 33 by a looped spring 38 having its end 39 held in an opening inthe saw-guide. ,A detent 57 (Fig. 5) is formed in 33 in which dog 37 is adapted to engage. The square upper face 37 of the 'dog prevents the saw-guide from being pulled beyond the detent, while the beveled under face 372 enables the dog to be withdrawn from the detent upon downward pressure of the saw-guide. An adjustable stop 40 is carried to one side of each support 33.V Y
`Adjustingscrews 41 `(Fig. 7 are loose in the lever 23 and screwed in section 28 to move said section transversely of the lever, thus moving the ylever 23 transversely or horizontally with respect to the pilot lever 18, by the screw connection27 between the `lever 18 and section28. 'The ends of screws 4l form a pivotal support for the hand `lever catch 42 which is adapted to aetuate a pin 43 upon which is mounted a dog 44 slidable in the sleeve 45 carried by leverV 18, the dog being adapted to engage inthe spaced notches 15. A coiled spring 46 interposed between the lever 23 and lever catch 42 holds dog 44 into a notch as is shown in Fig. 3. Y
A clamping link 47 is pivotally suspended from locking bar 19 by pin 48, and is connected at its lower end by pin 49 to clamp lever 50 which carries at one end the above mentioned `pin 43. An adjustable screw stop 52 carried by pilot lever 18 forms a stop against which the end 51 of lever 50 contacts, as shown in Fig. 6. The end of lever catch 42 which engages pin 43 is formed with open ends 53 y(Fig. 6) which allow said lever catch to be withdrawn from said pin.
A depending spring catch 54 is carried by lever 23 and has an opening 55 inV which the free end of lever catch 42 is adapted to engage, as shown in Fig. 6. y
In. the operation of the saw supporting v lever 23, that is, in the swinging of said lever `from its pivotal at 16, three ele# ments, the locking bar 19, pilot lever 18 and saw supporting lever 23 are moved bodily carrying all the several actuable elements therewith. i `Wvith the parts positioned as shown in Fig. 3, in order to swing lever 23,
hand lever catch 42 is raised against theV action of spring 46, drawing dog 44 from its locked engagement with the notched face of i Y 14, thus allowing the saidlever 23 to be swung freely on its pivot. This action swingspin43 still lower, which in turn raises end 51 to contact stop 52, the clamping lever 50 being pivoted at 49, whereby'said lclamping lever 50 with the stop 52 as its fulcrum, will draw the clamping link 47 down, thus tightening locking bar 19 and pilot lever.18 against the faces 9 and 14, and lock the saw supporting lever.y To release 'the lever, from this position, catch 54 is disengaged from the end of the lever catch. If the saw when it is positioned as in Fig. 1, does not cut at right angles to the face plate 10, the saw can be adjusted horizontally to remedy suchV defect by adjustment of the screws 41 to move the sawxsupporting lever as above described. To ad- 'just the saw when it is tipped from its vertical plane, adjustment is made by the two screws 30, which pivot the lever 23 from the pins 29, there being enough play in supportingscrews 26 and 27 to allow for such' pivotal movement. Y
` It will thus be obvious that I have provideda miter boX which can be'very quickly dismantledfor packing' and transportation purposes Awithout affecting the pivotal mounting of the pilot arm.
In my improved miter-box, to remove the sawguides and lever carrying same, 'only two screws 26 and 27 have to be loosened. VVhen these screws are loosened, as will be seen from Fig.`4, the lever 23 may be moved longitudinally, until screw 26 is located in .l opening 24 and screw 27 is opposite opening 56 in lever-catch 42, the lever catch being 'drawn from pin 43 becausev of its openfends 53, thus releasing the said lever 23 carrying the lever catch 42 therewith, Yfrom the miterbox, the opening 25 kallowing the clamping l `elements and dog to remain in their normal position.
I claim as my invention- 1. In a miter boX, the combination of a frame having an arcuate portion provided with a notched face, a pair of clamping bars pivoted co-aXially on' the frame on a Avertical axis, one engaging the upper and the other the lower face of said arcuate frame portion, saw-supporting means connected with said bars to swing therewith, a
dog in connection with said bars and movable into and out of said notches, means for clamping said bars on the arcuate frame portion to lock the bars in connection therewith, and manually operable means having a direct connection with said dog and bar-clamping means for operating the same.
2. In a miter box, the combination of a frame having an arcuate portion provided with a'notched face, a pair of clamping bars .-pivoted co-axially on the frame on avertomatically detachable therefrom when the saw-supporting lever is detached.
In a miter box, the combinationof a frame having an `arcuate portion formed with notches, means pivotally mounted on the frame on a vertical axis to swing laterally with respect thereto, a dog carried by said pivoted means for engaging said notches, locking means carried by saidpivoted means for locking the same in connection with the arcuate frame portion intermediate the notches thereof, saw-supporting means detachably connected to said pivoted means, and means carried by the saw-supporting means for operating the dog and locking means and being automatically releasable therefrom when the saw-supporting means is detached.

In a miter box, the combination of a frame, a pair of pilot bars disposed respectively above and beneath said frame, rigidly connected together and permanently mounted on the frame to swing about `a vertical pivot, means carried by said bars for locking said bars in adjusted position on the frame, a membery detachably connected to and carried by the lower pilot bar, saw-guides mounted on lthe ends of said member, and means for actuating said locking means carried by said member and detachably connected to said locking means so as to be automatically disconnected therefrom upon disassociation of said member from said pilot bars. y
5. In a miter box, the combination of a frame, a pair `of pilot bars, disposed` respectively above and beneath said frame, rigidly connected togetherk and permanently mounted on the frame to swing about a vertical pivot, means for locking said bars in adjusted position on the frame, a member detachably connectedL to and carried by the lower pilot bar, saw-guides mounted on the ends of said member, andmeans for actuating said locking. means carried by said member and detachably connected to said locking means so as to be automatically disconnected therefrom upon disassociation of said member from said pilot bars.
6. In a miter box, the combination of a main frame, al pilot frame comprising an upper bardisposed above and a lower bary disposed beneath said main frame, said bars being rigidly connected together and pivotally mounted on themain frame at their rear ends on a vertical axis, a' member equipped at each end with a saw-guide disposed beneath the lower bar and detachably connected to and carried by said bar whereby the saw-guides may be removed from and replaced on the frame without disturbingthe relative relation of said guides or the pivotal mounting of the pilot bars, and means for locking said pilot frame in adjusted position to theV main frame.
7. In a miter box, the combination of a frame, a pair of pilot bars rigidly connected together and permanently mounted on the frame to swing about a vertical pivot, means for locking said bars in adjusted position on the frame, a member extending with a saw-guide disposed respectively in front and at the rear of said frame, means f for detachably connecting said member to the lower` pilot bar so that said member may be detached from the pilot bar without affecting the connection between the pilot bar andthe frame, and a manually operable device carried by said member for actuating said locking means.
8. In a miter box, the combination of a frame, a pair of pilot bars rigidly connected together and permanently mounted on said `frame toswing about a verticaly pivot, a member provided at each end with a rigidly attached saw-guide, means for detachably connecting said member to the lower pilot bar, and adjusting means whereby said member may be adjusted laterally with respect to the. pilot bar and also tilted with respect thereto to adjust both sawguides simultaneously into desired position with respect to the frame.
