To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, FRANK F. Rises, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lead, in the county of Lawrence and .State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Dust-Collectors for Drills, of which the following is a specification. Y
This invention relates to devices employed for collecting the dust and like particles of material'which arise from the working of drills, more particularly of pneumatic drills, and has for one of its objects to simplify and improve the construction and increase the efliciency and utility of devices of this character.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be applied without material structural change to drills and like devices of various sizes and employed for various purposes.
The improved device is more particularly applicable to drills employed in sto-ne quarries and the like, and likewise employed in dressing and working building stone and for like purposes where the operation of the drill produces quantities of fine dust or pulverized material which is liable to annoy or injure the workmen, and for the purpose of illustration the improved device is shown applied to a conventional pneumatic drill, but it is to be understood that it is not desired to limit-the invention in any particular in this respect. y
In the drawings employed for illustrating the preferred embodiment of the invention Figure 1 is a side elevation of a conventional pneumatic drill with the improvement ap-` plied; Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan view with the top removed and with the drill stock in section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2 with the cover in place thereon; Fig. 4l is a section on the line H ofFig. 2 with the cover in place thereon.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
rfhe improved device comprises a hollow body 10, preferably cylindrical and with op positely disposed lateral lugs 11 having threaded apertures and arranged to receive corresponding lateral lugs 12 projecting from a top or closure 13 for the body. The` lugs 12 are perforated to receive clamp screws 111 which enter the threaded apertures of the lugs 11 and thus secure the clo sure 13 in place. The closure 18 is provided with a central aperture 15 through which the stock 16 of the drill operates. The bottom of the body 10 is annular, or with a relatively large opening 18, so that a considerable space is left between the stock 16 and the walls of the opening 18 for the free passage of the dust and like matter. The body 10 is formed with a channel 19 which slopes constantly downwardly toward one side and merges into a pocket or recess 2G at the lowest point of the channel. The bottom of the recess is preferably located a considerable distance below the lower line of the lowest point of the channel, and communicating wlth the recess 2O is a lateral discharge passage 21 leading outwardly from the body. Any suitable conductor may be attached to the outlet 21, but as this conductor forms no part of the present invention it is not deemed necessary to illustrate the same. The bottom of the body is designed to rest upon the stone or other material through which the drill is operating and indicated conventionally at 22, and a rubber or other packing 23 may be employed betweenv the body 10 and the rock or other material 22 to prevent thelescape of dust between the body and the roc r.
A packing washer 24 of leather orlike inaterial may be placed upon the top 13 and surrounding the drill rod 16, and held in place by an annular holding member or washer 25, the latter being secured by clamp bolts or like devices 26.
|The improved device is simple in construction, can be inexpensively manufactured, preferably of cast metal, and may be readily applied to drill stocks of various sizes by slight and unimportant modifications of the opening 15 of the cover 18.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. In a device of the class described, a hollow body having a lateral discharge, a top having an aperture to receive a drill stock, and a bottom having an opening, said bottom having a channel surrounding its opening and constantly sloping toward the discharge and communicating therewith and said discharge located below the line of the channeh 2.y ln a device of the class described, a hollow body includingatop and a bottom, the
