Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 2, 19113.
Application filed October 21, 1915. Serial No. 57,146.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GICERO H. LA Cnorx, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bannister, in the county of San Augustine and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Pulley-Block, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is a pulley block of the sort used in logging operations and elsewhere.
The present invention aims to improve a pulley block of the type above described by providing the same with a U-shaped suspending member which, in its turn, is equipped with a depending prong, adapted to engage a support, to the end that the pulley block may be sustained against vertical swinging movement.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
With the above and other ob'ects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood sembled with a post or support; Fig. 2 is a cross section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig.
3 is a side elevation of the pulley blocl attachment forming, essentially, the sub ect matter of this application; Fig. 4: is an elevation wherein the element shown in Fig. 3 is viewed at right angles to the showing of Fig. 3.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is adapted to be used in connection with pulley blocks of widely dlfa ierent sorts and therefore, a specific and detailed description of, a pulley block of: any sort is unnecessary. Generally considered, the pulley block may embody plates 1 connected by an axle 2 on which is jour' naled a sheave 3. The plates 1 of the pulley block may terminate in ears 4 through which pass securing elements 5.
The invention comprises a U-shaped eyeforming member 6 embodying arms 7 and 8 terminated in thinned fins 9 received between the ears 4 and equipped with openings 10 adapted to receive the securing elements 5. Formed integrally with the arm 8 is a prong 11 terminated in a sharpened end 12. The prong 11 projects laterally from the arm 8 and is rearwardly extended, into approximate parallelism with the arm 8, the tip of the prong 11 being disposed beyond the bend 14 of the U-shaped member 6.
Through the eye forming member 6 is extended a binder 15 of any desired sort passed around a support '16 which may be a post,
tree or stump, the extremity 12 of the prong,
11 biting into one edge of the support 16 in a manner which will be clearly obvious from Figs. 1 and 2.
The cable which is threaded through the pulley block and engages the sheave 3 is denoted by the numeral 17. Owing to the provision of the prong 11, a vertical movement on the pulley block under the action of the cable 17 is avoided. Unnecessary wear is reduced, and the cable 17 will remain engaged with the tread of the sheave 3.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. The combination with a pulley block embodying a sheave, of an eye forming member assembled with the block and provided with a laterally projecting rearwardly extended support engaging prong disposed in a plane approximately at right angles to the plane of rotation of the sheave.
2. The combination with a pulley block embodying spacedplates and a sheave ournaled therebetween, of a U-shaped member assembled with the plates and embodying arms one of which is provided with a laterally projecting rearwardly extended support-engaging prong disposed in a plane approximately at right angles to the plane of rotation of the sheave.
3. An article of manufacture adapted to be employed in equipping a standard form In testimony that I claim the foregoing as of pulley block With a supporting strut, and my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature comprising a U-shaped member including in the presence of two witnesses.
arms having terminal openings, one of the CICERO H. LA CROIX. arms being provided adjacent its opening Witnesses:
With an outstanding prong prolonged in the GEO. TATE,
direction substantially parallelto said arm. BEN WILLIAMS.
