FOLDABLE ADJL'ETLBLE FEED-BAG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 2, 1916.
Application filed January 4, 1916. Serial No. 70,180.
1 '0 all whom it may concern:
Be 11; known that I, Axrom BRZOSKA, a
subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary,
residing at lVoodlawn, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foldable Adjustable Feed-Bags, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in foldable adjustable feed bag.
The primary object of this invention is the provision of a feed bag compactly foldable when not in use, but adapted to automatically open upon being released, the bag having a resiliently mounted bottom adjustable during the movements of the animals head for changing the holding capacity of the bag.
A further object of the device is the provision of a bellows form of feed bag having an automatic contracting means and extensible under the actuation of the nose of the animal with which the bag is employed, the rim of the bag being normally open but adapted for folding when desired.
A still further object of the device is to provide a foldable feed bag that is easy and inexpensive to manufacture and which is adjustable in size when operatively arranged upon the nose of an animal being fed therefrom.
With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like-designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views :Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device in its open position. Fig. 2 is a similar view of a diametrically opposite side thereof. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the device, partially broken away, and Fig. 1 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but with the feed bag in its folded inoperative position.
It is to be understood that the present form of feed bag may be employed for feeding such animals as horses and mules, being arranged for suspension from the head of the animal in substantially the usual manner employed with such manner of devices. A foldable circular rim or mouth ring 10 1s provided for the bag, being made in two semicircular parts hinged together by spring hlnges 11, which hinges normally maintain the ring in its open-circular position. The
feed bag proper consists of a sack 12 formed of flexible material arranged in bellows for mation whereby the same may be extended or folded as found desirable, one end of the sack being secured as at 13 to the ring 10 and extending therethrough and provided with a disk-shaped bottom 14-. secured within its opposite end.
Pairs of hangers or brackets 15 are carried at opposite points upon the ring 10 and opposite the point of attachment of the sack 12, each hinged section of the said ring carrying two of the said brackets and adapted to support a miniature form of shade roller 16, being of the usual spring-winding or retracting form. The said rollers 16 and brackets 15 are of substantially the usual form employed with window shades, the same being so provided of short length for accommodating the same substantially to the diameter of the ring 10, the said rollers 16 having two cords 17 wound thereon and secured at their free ends to the sack bottom 14 and running through loops 18 carried by the sack 12.
Supporting ropes 19 are arranged in the form of bails having their inner ends anchored as at 20 to the brackets 15 and passing through staples 21 at the opposite sides of the ring 10 having tie ropes 22 attached thereto and adapted to be secured over the head of the animal for maintaining the feed bag in operative position for feeding the animal therefrom.
It will be understood that the rollers 16 being of the shade roller form, the cords 19 are normally held wound thereon and with the sack 12 retracted or folded as best illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. The ring 10 being normally held open by its hinges 11, readily accommodates the nose of the animal when the feed bag is attached to the animals head by the ropes 22 so that the feed within the sack 12 may be readily eaten by the animal, the downward thrust of the animals nose depressing the sack bottom 14, and slightly extending the sack, while the aforementioned rollers 16 retain the animals mouth in contact with the feed. The sack 12 when emptied is normally held retracted or folded as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings and the sections of the ring 10 may be folded together against the action of the spring hinges 11 for arranging the device in its folded relation as illustrated in Fig. 4: of the drawings and in which position the bag may be retained by means of the ropes 19 and 22. Upon again releasing the said ropes, the spring hinges 11 return the device to its operative open position.
While the form of the invention herein shown and described is what is believed to be the preferred embodiment thereof, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the in vention as claimed.
lVhat I claim as new is 1. A feed bag comprising a normally open sectional mouth ring, spring hinges connecting the sections of the said ring, op positely arranged brackets upon each section of the said ring, a resiliently-wound roller carried by each pair of brackets, a sack secured at one end to the said ring and extending between the said rollers a rigid bottom of disk form carried by said sack, cords carried by the said rollers and having their ends operatively attached to the said bottom whereby the sack is normally retracted, supporting bail ropes attached to the said brackets and mounting ropes sef cured to the said bail ropes.
2. A feed bag comprising a mouth ring formed of'two sections, spring hinged connections between the saidsections, a flexible sack extending through the said ring and attached to one side thereof, oppositely arranged brackets attached to each section of the said ring at the opposite side of the latter, spring rewinding rollers operatively mounted in the said brackets at opposite his ANTONI BRZOSKA.
