PORTABLE TRUCK.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN SINDELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eau Claire, in the county of Eau Claire and State of Wisconsin, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Portable Trucks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, for a more specific description thereof.
My invention relates to that class of trucks which may be quickly and easily folded into a compact form and placed in a suit case or a small case of its own and carried by the user when traveling and taken from its case and readily unfolded and made ready for use in transporting baggage at the travelers destination.
The nature of my device will best be understood by reference to the accompanying drawing in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my inproved truck. Fig. 2. is a side elevation showing a portion of the handle of my truck with a suit case strapped thereon. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of my truck showing sides extended with the extension supports partially raised. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on line X X of Fig. 3 looking in the direction of the arrow. Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken on line Y Y of Fig. 3 looking in the direction of the arrow. Fig. 6 is a plan view of my lazytong handle partially extended showing the strap holder with strap therein and the hand grip. Fig. 7 is a view of the axle partly in elevation and partly in section.
The body portion of my truck is composed of-three sections, the central section A (see Fig. 3) being stationary and the side sections B B being slidable on the axle and carrying brackets D on their under side through which the axle C passes. The side sections B B are normally drawn toward the central section A by the tension of springs E E which are attached at their ends to the under sides of the side sections B B thus clamping a suit case or the like, placed on the truck, at its ends. I provide extension supporting arms F F with extensions Gr pivotally mounted thereon as at H. H. in order that one or more suit cases or other objects may be placed one upon the other and carried on the truck, the arms preventing the upper cases or objects from slipping Specification of Letters Patent.

I also provide a lazy-tong handle J for my truck, one end of which is secured to bracket K on the under side of the center section A and which handle can be folded into a compact form thus bringing it within the limits of the outer edges of the body sectlons.
The central section A is held in a fixed position in the center of the truck by means of pin L which passes through the said section and the rear one of springs E as shown in Fig. l. I also provide a strap case N which is affixed to the lazy-tong handle J intermediate its ends as at X and through which the strap 0 passes.
A grip handle P is affixed to the outer end of the lazy-tong handle. The axle of my truck is round and telescopic at its central portion and is composed of two sections Q, and B, one of which is adapted to slide in the other. Adjacent the outer end of these two sections I have placed collars S to pre' vent the axle from sliding outwardly through the brackets D carried on the under side and at the outer ends of sections B B.
Intermediate the collars S S and the spindles T. T., I form the axle with rectangular sections U U to fit in the rectangular opening of brackets D, the purpose of this formation of the parts being to prevent the axle from turning in its bearing. I also provide brackets W W on the undersides of sections B B to engage the forward one of the springs E to prevent the sections B B from tipping backwardly when the truck is loaded.
My truck may be made of any suitable light material though I prefer sheet metal for the body portion and the lazy-tong handle and light iron wheels with rubber tires.
It will be seen that an object strapped to the truck as shown in Fig. 2 is securely held in place and can be carried for any distance even though the surface over which it is carried is rough and uneven.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
1. The combination with a wheeled frame of a central body section, a pair of side body sections mounted thereon and slidable toward and from the said center section, and means for drawing said side sections toward the said center section.
2. The combination with a wheeled frame of a central body section, a pair of side 3. 4. The combination with a wheeled frame of a central body section, a pair of side body sections mounted thereon and movable toward and from the said central section and means for drawing said side sections toward I the said central section and a lazy-tong handle attached to said central section.
5. The combination with a wheeled frame of a central body section, a pair of side body sections mounted thereon and movable toward and from the said central body sec tion and springs attached to said side body sections and said central section and tending to normally draw said side body sections toward the said central body section.
6. The combination with a wheeled frame of a pair of body sections supported thereon and movable toward and from each other, of a plurality of extension arms pivotally mounted on said body sections.
7. The combination with a wheeled frame of a pair of body sections. supported thereon and movable toward and from each other, and springs attached at their ends to the under sides of the said body sections and tending normally to draw said sections toward each other.
8. The combination with a wheeled frame of a pair of body sections supported thereon and movable toward and from each other,
springs attached to said body sections tending normally to draw them toward each other and brackets carried by said body sections to engage one of said springs.
9. The combination with a wheeled frame of a central body section, a pair of side body sections mounted thereon and movable toward and from each other and springs attached to said side and central sections and tending normally to draw the said side'sections toward'the said central section.
10. The combination with a wheeled frame of a pair of side body sections mounted thereon and movable toward and from each other, a telescopic axle, brackets carried by said side sections through which said axle passes and means for preventingthe. said axle fromrotating in its bearings.
11. The combination with a wheeled frame of a pair of side body sections mounted thereon and movable toward and from each other, a telescopic axle, brackets carried by said side sections through which said axle passes and meansfor preventing said axle from slipping outwardly through said brackets.
12. The combination with a Wheeled frame of a pair of side body sections mounted thereon and movable toward and from each other, a telescopic axle, brackets carried by said side sections through which said axle passes a central body portion intermediate the two said side body sections, a lazytong handle attached to said central section and a strap case aflixed to said handle intermediate its ends.
