Be it known that 1, JOHN H. SAMPLE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Heater; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying draw ings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to heating devices.
It particularly relates to a combined solid fuel and fluid fuel heater,' that is, one which may be heated either by a coal or wood fire or by a gas or liquid 'fuel;
The invention may be contained in many forms of constructions usable for different purposes, all of which come within the purview of my claims hereinafter appended. To show the practicability of my invention,
.; I have selected one of such constructions as an example and shall describe it hereinafter. The construction selected is illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

1, Fig. 1, is the shell or body of the stove having the ornaments or the ordinary stove. It is provided with the combustion chamber 2 and the fire pot 3 which forms a solid fuel heating chamber. It is also provided with the usual grate 4. Beneath the grate 4: is located the ash pit 5 having the door 6 which closes the ash. pit. It is also provided with the shaker 7 which ls located near the .top of the ash pit door 6. The usual ash pan 8 may be inserted in the ash pit to receive the ashes which fall from the grate 4.

They will also coact to hold the doors in open positions when opened for enough to bring the lines through the centers of gravity of the doors outside the lower edges of the doors. The doors may be provided with transparent panels 27.- The doors form with the inc-losing walls 34: the gas heater chamber. The doors extend upward and so as to cover.a circular hood 36 which is supported on a, flange 37 pet 3. The hood Stis closed at the rear by means of a sloping plate or casting 38 which is suitablybolted to the hood and so as to close that portion of it which extends on the outside of the heating chamber and to the rear of the inclosing Walls 34:. The products of combustion pass through openings 0 located in the walls 34: through the flue formed by the hood 37 and the casting 38 and through the pipe 41 located at the back of the stove and up through the chamber 42 located at the top of the stove.
The chamber 42 is provided with a damer 45 which is swung between the opening 46 through which the pipe 41 communicates With the chamber 42 and the opening a? through which the solid fuel heat chamber communicates with the chamber The products of combustion from the burner 10 may thus pass up through the hood 36, pipe 41, chamber L2, and through the chimney.
If solid fuel is used, the damper 4:5 is turned over by the handle 48 soas to close the opening 46 and the smoke Wlll pass up from the pot 3 through the opening 47 and the chamher 42 and out through the pipe or chimney to which the stovemay be connected.
The construct-ion selected and described, may be greatly varied in the arrangement and manufacture of its parts and in the substitution of elements having equivalent functions and such modifications may be used for many varied purposes and still contain the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,
1. A stove having an exit for the products of combustion, a solid fuel heating chamber and a fluid fuel heating chamber partly surrounding the solid fuel heating chamber, doors having transparent panels for closing the fluid fuel heating chamber,'a
.burner located'in the bottom of the fluid fuel chamber, the chambers being closed with respect to each other and havingseparate exits and a damper for opening and closing communication between the exit of either of the chambers with the exit of the. stove.
A stove'having a solid fuel chamber and an ash pit located below the solid fuel chamber, a fluid fuel chamber located on one side of the solid fuel chamber and the ash pit, an ash pit doonlocated on the side of the stove opposite the fluid fuel chamber, doors having transparent panels for closing the fluid fuel chamber, and a fluid burner located within the fluid fuel chamber at one side of the ash pit, the chambers being closed with respect to each other and having separate exits.
3. A stove having a fire pot for solid fuel and an exit therefrom, a flanged hood' located on the outside of and partly surrounding the upper edge of the fire pot,
fluid fuel chamber, a gas burner located below the hood and in the fluid fuel chamber. the fluid fuel chamber having doors with transparent panels and partly surrounding the fire pot and the edge of the said hood and the said burner, the said hood having an exit.
