STEP-LADDER IRONING-BOARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 2, 1916.
7 Application filed July 8, 1915 Serial No. 38,823.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. BUSHMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Step-Ladder Ironing-Boards, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a household article of furniture, and more particularly to the class of combined step ladders and ironing boards.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of an article of this character, wherein the construct-ion thereof is of novel form, to render it useful and handy, and also to assure strength and durability.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an article of this character, wherein the same can be conveniently folded for the storing thereof in the least possible space, when it is not in use.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an article of this character, wherein the same can be quickly and easily converted into either an ironing board or step ladder.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of an article of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eflicient in its purpose, and inexpensive in manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawing :-Figure 1, is a. perspective view of the article constructed in accordance with the invention, showing it in position for use as an ironing board. Fig. 2, is a perspective view of the article in position for use as a step ladder. Fig. 8, is a vertical longitudinal sectional view.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A, designates a solid board section, which constitutes the ironing board proper, and on one side of this section at spaced intervals are fixed pairs of opposed brackets 5, having secured thereto step sections 6, the brackets being preferably made from metal, while the sections 6, are preferably made from wood, although it is to be understood that the brackets and step sections can be made from any other suitable material or of an other desirable shape than shown.
Swingingly connected to certain pairs of these brackets 5, near the ends of the board section A, are the side members 7, of leg or prop frames B, and C, having outer cross rungs or bars 8, which are fixed to the side members 7, in any suitable manner. The side members 7, of the frame B, are formed with medial notches 9, while the frame C, has fixed in the side members 7, thereof, a medial cross rung or bar 10, for detachable engagement in the notches 9, which form seats therefor, when the said frames are crossed so as to interlock the same for firmly supporting the ironing board .in position for use.
Formed in the free ends of the side members 7, of the frame B, are notches 11, which form seats for the outer cross rung or bar 8, in the frame C, for receiving the same, so as to hold the section A, at an inclination and propped for use as ladder.
From the foregoing it is thought that the construction and manner of use of the article will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted. However, it is to be clear that changes. variations and modifications may be made, such as come properly within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
What is claimed is:
1. An article of this character, comprising a board section, having steps on one side thereof, two supporting leg frames swingingly connected to two of the steps, and one frame having alined notches medially thereof, and in the free ends thereof, and medial and outer cross rungs on the other frame to be detachably engaged in the notches.
2. A combination article of the character described, comprising a board, pairs of brackets fixed at intervals on one side thereof, a step supported by each pair of bracka step f ets, tWo pairs of strips forming props to support the board and pivoted to the brackets adjacent both ends of the board, said props being capable of being swung to project from either side of the board, tWo of said strips being provided With intermediate notches and With notches in the free ends thereof, and rungs carried by the other two strips for engagement With said notches to support the strips in crossed or at substan- 1o tially L-shaped position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
GEORGE A. BUSHMAN.
