OIL COOK-STOVE AND HEATER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 2, 1916.
Application filed July 27, 1915. Serial No. 42,233.
To all whom/it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL A. WEBBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at the town of Truro, in the Province of Nova Scotia, Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Oil Cook-Stoves and Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to stoves in which heat is generated by the combustion of fuel oil, and the objects of my invention are first, to prevent dissipation of the generated heat by concentrating and directing it to a certain required area, and second, to prevent the chiinneys in cook stoves from becoming foul by the overflow of liquids, the dropping and overflow of grease and so forth, during the operation of cooking. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a two burner oil cook stove, showing the left hand burner as ordinarilv equipped, and the right hand burner with myinvention attached to the top of the chimney. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan of the radial barred circular grate, common to this class of stoves, for the reception of'cooking utensils. Fig. 4 is a plan of my invention. Fig. 5 is an enlarged section of Fig. 4, taken on line a 6.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
In the drawing, (A) is the frame or body of the stove which is of light metal.
(a a) are the burners.
(b. b) are the chimneys.
(c) is the oil reservoir.
(cl) is the feed tube.
(6) is the radial barred grate.
(f) is a hood shown in section in Fig. 1 in the position at the top of the chimney (b) on which it rests when in use. It is Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing Washington, D. G.
specified.
be seen that the form and location of this hood is adapted to effectually catch and re tain any wastage that may pass the grate during the operations of cooking, thereby preventing the soiling of the chimneys, but the most important result obtained by the introduction of this hood, is apparent in the conservation and concentration of generated heat. The large space between the top of the chimney and the grate in the ordinary stove equipment, being open to moving air currents, a loss of no inconsiderable quantitv of heat is inevitable.
Having described and illustrated my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by patent is The combination in an oil stove of a chimney, a grate and a grate opening, with a hood adapted to the conservation of the generated heat of said stove, said hood having an open top conforming to the grate opening of said stove, a bottom depressed below the top of said chimney adapted to catch overflow wastage, and internally contracting and extending upward to the top of said chimney, having an opening conforming to the top opening of said chimney and adapted to be su ported thereon; substantially as described and for the purpose PAUL A. lVEBBER.
