Description

l. ACITO.
HINGED JOINT FOR BRACELETS.
APPUCATION FILED NOV. 3. I915.
LWLUM, Patented Apr. 25,1916.
THE COLUMBIA PLANOGRAPH co., WASHINGTON, D C
JOSEPH ACITO, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HINGED JOINT FOR BRACELETS;
Application filed November 3, 1915.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, Josnrn Acrro, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hinged J oints for Bracelets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will e11- able others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The primary object of this invention is to improve the construction of that type of bracelet known as the box bracelet, by providing a novel type of hinged joints for connecting the units, whereby liability of adjacent units becoming accidentally detached from each other will be reduced to a minimum.
Another object of the invention is to improve the general construction of bracelet, of the type above referred to, so as to admit of the different units being conveniently and expeditiously connected to each other or disconnected from each other.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved connection for the' units of box bracelets, that will be of such simple construction that the cost of manufacture of the bracelets and the repair of the same, will be reduced.
Other objects will appear and be better understood from that embodiment of my invention of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part thereof in which Figure 1 is a side view of the bracelet. Fig. 2 is a fragment of the bracelet showing portions of the units in section. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the bracelet when opened or before the same has been closed. Fig. 4 is a top plan view of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a horizontal plan taken through Fig. 4.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the letter A designates the bracelet, as an entirety, which includes a plurality of hingedly connected units 1, each of which is of rectangular configuration being formed of the spaced upper and lower sections 2 Specification of Letters Patent.

and 3, the said sections being connected by the walls 4. The upper section 2 is provided with an opening 5, which registers with an opening 6 in the lower section 3, for the reception of a suitable jewel. When the units are in bracelet formation, one wall of one of the units is arranged face to face with one wall of one of the adjacent units, as shown most clearly in Fig. 2 of the drau ings. The walls 4 of each unit have recesses 'Tcut in their side edges, at opposite points, and each wall has its inner side provided with a horizontally extending groove 8, the opposite ends of which communicate with the recesses in the side edges of the walls. Substantially elliptical shaped links 9 encircle the engaged walls of the adjacent units and have their ends fitted within the recesses 7 in the side edges of the wall, and their side port-ions fitting in the horizontal grooves 8 in the inner side faces of the wall, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4. The depth of the recesses 7 and the grooves 8 is such, that when the links 9 are positioned therein the said links will lie flush with the sides and edges of the walls 4. The lower ends of each wall 4 is beveled inwardly, as shown at 10, so as to admit of the units having hinged connection with each other, so that the bracelet can be closed on a circle, as shown in Fig. 1.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantagesof the construction and method of operation can be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which the invention pertains, and while I have described the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative, and that such changes may be made as desired as are within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what I claim as new is A bracelet of the class described, comprising a plurality of units formed of spaced upper and lower sections, having walls connecting the sections to each other, each of the walls having recesses in their side edges and a horizontal groove in one face thereof, In testimony whereof I aflix my signature one Wall of one unit being arranfged indenin presence of two Witnesses.
gagement with one Wall of one 0 the a jacent units, and links encircling the adjacent JOSEPH AGITO' Walls .and fitted Within the horizontal Witnesses:
grooves and the recesses, and lying flush J OSEPH CARoLA, With the adjacent Walls. RENATO MEVOGLIONI.
