EDWARD A. WARB'URTON, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SAFETY-LOCK FOR LOOMS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 25, 191%.
Application filed February 4, 1916. Serial No. 76,117.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD A. WARBUR- ToN,'a citizen of the United States, resident of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have made a certain new and useful Invention in Safety-Locks for Looms; and Ideclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l is a perspective view of the invention as applied. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22, Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a side view of the invention, showing the loom frame in part.
The invention has relation to lever locks, having for its object to provide a lock for the starting lever of a loom, for use while the loom is being adjusted, to guard against accidents caused by untimely operation of the lever.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts, as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention, the numeral 2 designates a horizontal portion of the loom frame, and 3 is the starting lever, operating immediately adjacent to one end of said frame portion.
4 is a bracket, consisting of a horizontal base 5, secured by screws 5 to said portion of the loom frame at the extreme end thereof, close to the starting lever, said base having vertical end lugs 6, wherein a shaft 7 has rotary bearings at its ends. Mounted upon this shaft is the radial lock 8, normally resting upon said horizontal frame portion and movable through an arc of about 18 0 degrees, to locking position. In this position the radial lock extends beyond the end of the said frame portion into the path of the starting lever and against the rear side of said lever when in its initial position, preventing movement of the said lever to start the loom. A lateral lug 9 of the lock has in this locking position contact with the horizontal base 5, to limit the movement of the look in this direction when the lock has reached a position at right angles to and in the path of the lever.
Inasmuch as the initial position of the starting lever varies, owing to wear, etc., the radial lock is made longitudinally adjustable of its shaft, to enable it in any case to effectually prevent movement of the lever, this adjustment being accomplished usually by a screw 10, carried by the hub of the lock, having engagement with the shaft 7 and holding the lock fast upon the shaft, with which it turns. Upon loosening of the screw the lock may be adjusted as stated, and again made fast to the shaft.
I claim:
1. In a loo-m having a horizontal frame portion and a starting lever Working adjacent to the end of said portion, a'bracket having a base secured to the top of said horizontal portion adjacent to one end thereof, and vertical end lugs, a shaft having rotary bearings in said lugs, anda radial look upon said shaft normally resting upon said horizontal portion of the loom frame and adapted to be turned into the path of said lever to prevent starting movement thereof.
2. In a loom having a horizontal frame portion and a starting lever working adjacent to the end of said portion, a bracket having a base secured to the top of said horizontal portion adjacent to one end thereof, and vertical end lugs, a shaft having rotary bearings in said lugs, and a radial look upon said shaft normally resting upon said horizontal portion of the loom frame and adapted to be turned into the path of said lever to prevent starting movement thereof, said lock having a clamp-screw connection with its shaft and being longitudinally adjustable thereupon.
3. In a loom having a horizontal frame portion and a starting lever Working adjacent to the end of said portion, a bracket having a base secured to the top of said horizontal portion adjacent to one end there of, and vertical end lugs, a shaft having ro- I nection with said shaft, being longitudinally Copies of this patent may be obtained for tary hearings in said lugs, and a radial projection contacting With the base of said lock upon said shaft normally resting upon bracket to limit the movement thereof.
said horizontal portion of the loom frame In testimony whereof I afiix my signaand adapted to be turned into thevpath of ture, in presenceiof two. witnesses.
