Be it known that 1, WILLIAM E. SAUER- MAN, a citizen of the United States and resident of Ogden, in the county of Boone and State of Iowa, have invented a certain new and useful Attachment for VVringers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide an attachment for wringers of the kind adapted for feeding cloth to the wringer roll without endangering the fingers of the operator.
Still a further object is to provide such a device which can be quickly and easily attached to any ordinary wringer frame, and operatively connected with the wringer rolls, and may be quickly and easily re moved.
Still a further object is to provide such a device which can be quickly and easily mounted on either side of the wringer.
My invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of the various parts of the device whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which:
Figure 1 shows a front elevation of a wringer equipped with an attachment embodying my invention. Fig. 2 shows a vertical sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 shows an end elevation partly in section of the gearing device for operating the attachment.
In the accompanying drawings, l[ have used the reference numeral 10 to indicate genorally the upright end members of a wringer of ordinary construction having the upright wringer roll 11, and the lower wringer roll 12. The shaft of the lower wringer roll 12 is indicated by the reference character 13, and the shaft of the upper wringer roll is indicated by the character 1 1. On the ends of the shafts 13 and 14: are the gears 15 and 16 respectively arranged to mesh with each other. On one end of the shaft 18 is a pulley 17 or other suitable means for imparting rotation to the wringer rolls.
My improved attachment comprises an additional roll or roller 18 having a shaft 19, on one end of which is a pulley 20. The roll 18 is adapted to be secured to either side of the wringer at a point adjacent to, and

slightly below the level of the lower wringer roll by the following mechanism.
Secured to one of the upright members 10, on opposite sides thereof, are the bearings 21 secured in position by suitable means such as screws 22. Secured to opposite sides of the other upright member 10 by suitable means such as screws 22 is a plate 23 to which is pivoted a bearing 24 adapted to swing in a vertical plane. The end of the shaft 19 is adapted to be mounted in the bearings 21 and 24: on the same side of the wringer. The lower end of the bearing 21 is locked adj acent to the upright member 10 by means, of a movable plate 25 pivotally mounted on a bolt 30, and adapted to frictionally engage the lower end of the member 24 as illustrated in Fig. 2. On one end of the plate 25 is an outward extension 26 adapted to be grasped by the fingers of the operator.
It will readily be seen that the devices for mounting the wringer roller 19 may be mounted on both sides of the members 10, so that the roller 18 may be quickly and easily secured on either side of the wringer. The roller 18 may beeasily removed without the use of special tools or the removal of any bolts or parts which are likely to be lost. The roller 18 is operatively connected with the wringer rolls in the following manner. A two part pulley 27 is secured together by means of bolts 28, on the shaft 13 in line with the pulley 20. A belt 29 travels on the pulleys 27 and 20.
It is well known that in pulley operated wringers, there is danger that the fingers of the operator will be caught between the rollers and injured. This danger may be largely avoided by the use of the additional roll 18, insomuch as it is possible for the operator to place the garments to be wrung out on the roller 18 which will carry them between the rolls 11 and 12, without requiring the operator to place his or her fingers close to the wringer rolls 11 or 12. Attention in this connection is called to the fact that there is little danger of the garments being drawn between the rollers 18 and 12, for the reason that the roll 12 rotates unwardly adjacent to the roller 18.
