To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST F. SHnL'roN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fulton, in the county of Fulton and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corn-Strippers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in corn strippers and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character of a roller type, and an object of the invention is to provide a stripper having novel and improved means whereby the ears will be stripped from salks in a convenient and effective manner.
Furthermore it is an object of my invention to provide a device of this general character having novel and improved means whereby the stalks are caused to be operatively engaged by the rollers and the ears stripped therefrom to be delivered to one side of said rollers.
It is also an object of my invention to provide a device of this general character including elevating means whereby the ears, after being stripped from the stalks may be conveyed to any suitable point of discharge.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claims.
In order that my invention may be better understood, 1 will now proceed to describe the Same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein,
Figure 1 is a View in elevation of a corn stripper constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a view in top lan of the device as disclosed in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Fig. 1; certain of the parts being omitted for clarity of disclosure and Fig. 4; is a sectional view taken substantially on the line H of Fig. 1.
As disclosed in the accompanying draw-- ings, 1 denotes a bull wheel rotatably supported upon the axle 2, carried by the frame Specification of Letters Patent.

3, said frame being substantially rectangular 1n form and having a wheel 1 disposed therethrough. Fixed to the wheel 1, is the sprocket 4, around which is disposed the chain 5, also directed around a sprocket 6 fixed to the shaft 7, disposed transversely of the frame 3 and at a point rearwardly of the bull wheel 1.
The frame 3 has projecting laterally therefrom a supplementary frame 8 of predetermined dimensions and to the outer extremity of which is suitably engaged the truck or balance wheel 9.
The forward end of the frame 3 has suitably secured thereto the vertically disposed parallel related standards 10 having projecting forwardly from their lower extremities the guide bars 11 and rotatably supported by said standards 10 and the guide bars 11,
at points adjacent their free extremities are the shafts 12 of the snapper rolls 14:. By this arrangement, it will be perceived that the snapper rolls 14 are disposed on predetermined forward and downward inclines. The upper extremity of each of the shafts 12 is provided with a gear 15 in mesh with a gear 16 carried by the vertically disposed shaft 17 rotatably supported in the bearings 18 projecting rearwardly of a standard 10. The lower extremity of the shaft 17 is provided with a gear 19 in mesh with a gear 20 fixed to a. shaft 21, disposed transversely of the frame 3, adjacent the forward extremity thereof. One end portion of the shaft 21 is provided with a gear 23 in mesh with a gear 2 1 fixed to the adjacent extremity of a shaft 25 disposed longitudinally of the frame 3, adjacent one side thereof and having its rear extremity provided with a gear 26 in mesh with a gear 27 fixed to the shaft 7 hereinbefore referred to.
As is believed to be self-evident, the guide bars 11 are adapted to be disposed upon opposite sides of a row and in order to keep stalks substantially straight in order to be properly engaged by the snapper rolls 14:, I dispose, a predetermined distance above each of said rolls, an endless chain 28 provided with the. laterally projecting fingers 29 adapted to engage the stalks in a manner which is believed to be self-evident and as herein disclosed, each of said chains 28 is disposed around an idler sprocket 30 carried by the forward extremity of a guide bar 11 and around a sprocket wheel 31 carried by the upper extremity of an upright or stand- 'ard 10 and said upper sprocket is operaployed which may be operated with convenience and facility for imparting the requi-,

Disposed in parallelism with the snapper rolls 14 and at one side thereof, is an elongated member 34, to which are pivotally Vengaged, intermediate their lengths, the lovers 3 5, overlying the adjacent snapper roll 14- and having their opposite extremities pivotally engaged with the cranks 36 carried by the shaft 37 rotatably supported by an adjacent standard 10 and guide beam 11 and operatively engaged, as at 38 with the shaft 17 The overlying extremities ofthe levers terminate substantially directly above the bight of the rolls 14C and to such extremities is secured the board 39 which, asaresult of the rocking movement of the vlevers 35, is adapted to facilitate the stripping of the stalks and to throw the ears toone side of the rolls 14 so that said ears may be carried by the inclined board 39 to the, receiving end of the elevator structure 40.
I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to anyform of, construction for the elevator other than to say that it is, preferably driven, as indicated at 41, fromthe shaft 21.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a stripper constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly Well adapted for use by reason of vthe convenience, and facility with Which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without. material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not Wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation ofrthe several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice.

In combination, a main frame, parallel vertical standards secured thereto, guide arms projecting forwardly from the lower extremities of the standards, a snapper roll rotatably supported by the upper extremity of each of the standards and the forward extremity of the corresponding guide arm, an elongated member interposed between one of the standards and its guide arm at a point below the snapper roll and in parallel ism therewith, a crank shaft rotatahly supported by said standard and guide arm be low the elongated member, rock levers mounted upon the elongated member and ope *atively engaged with the adjacent crank shaft, said levers having their upper extremities overlying the adjacent snapper roll, a board secured to the upper extremities of the levers, and means for rotating the (rank shaft.
2. In combination, a main frame, parallel vertical standards secured thereto, guide arms projecting forwardly from the lower extremities of the standards, a snapper roll rotatably supported by the upper extremity of each of the standards and the forward extremity of the corresponding guide arm, an elongated member interposed between one of the standards and its guide arm at a point below the snapper roll and in parallelism therewith, a crank shaft rotatably supported by said guide arm below the elongated member, rock levers mounted upon the elongated member and operatively engaged with the adjacent crank shaft, said levers having their upper extremities overlying the adjacentfsnapper roll, a board secured to the upper extremities of the lovers, and means for rotating the crank shaft, said means also serving to rotate the snapper rolls.
