CLOCK-DIAL GAME.
To aZZ whom it may concern." i i Be it known that we, CHARLES E. EISELE and GEORGE E. WREST,C1l)lZeI1S of the United States, residing at the city of East'St. Louis, in the county of St. Clair and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful. Improvements in Clock-Dial Games, of which the following is a specification.
This inventionrelates to game devices and more particularly to clock-dial game devices and has for its object to provide a simple and cheap device of the character described adapted for amusing and instructing the player An advantage of the present invention is that it provides a cheap and simplemeans whereby a child, while beingamused, may be taught to read time as recorded by the clock-hands onthedial of an ordinary clock and may, also, be taught to solve simple arithmetical problems in the addition and multiplication of numbers. 1
Further, this invention consists in the arrangement and combination of parts described in this specification and set forth in the claims. i i I i In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification wherein like numbers of reference denote likeparts wherever they occur, Figure 1 is a plan view looking down upon the device embodying this invention; and Fig. 2 is a sectional viewon an enlarged scale on the line 22, Fig. 1.
Base 1 having any suitable shape in outline, such, for instance, as that of the square shown in the drawings may be made of. any suitable material, such, for instance, as cardboard and is adapted to rest face upward upon a table or the like. Clock-dial 2 borne by the upper surface of said base may be a reproduction of the clock-dial of an ordinary clock printed or otherwise depicted upon said upper surface, said dial bearing the usual radial scale adjacent its periphery marked consecutively with the numbers from 1 to 12, inclusive, spaced apart appropriately to indicate twelve hours and marked, also, consecutively with the numbers from 1 to 60, inclusive, in appropriate positions to indicate the sixty minutes of anhour, as best seen in Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawings.

Byway of illustration, 2. construction and arrangement of parts for pivotally supportmg indicators 3 and 4 in position adjacent dial 2 for the purposes of this invention is illustrated in the drawings and may consist of a cylindrical post 7 rigidly securedin an uprightposition, on base 1 centrally of dial 2 by any suitable means, such, for instance, as by means of inserting the lower end of said post through an appropriate opening 8 therefor in base 1 centrally of the circumference of dial 2 and securing said post in position by means of flanging a head 9 on said lower end substantially in the manner of a rivet head, as shown in Fig. 2. A flange 1O borne by said post adjacent the upper surface or dial-bearing surface of base 1 may be provided with a circular groove 11 formed around the axial center of post 7 in the upper face of said flange lOand disposed opposite to a corresponding circular groove 12 formed in the adjacent lower face of flange 13, said flange 13 being borne by sleeve 14, which sleeve is adapted to be rotatably mounted on post 7 above flange 10, circular grooves 11 and 12 being adapted as a ball-race for a plurality of balls 15 to form a ball-bearing for rotating flange 13 upon flange 10 to facilitate the rotation of sleeve 14 and parts associated therewith around post 7.
The. shank of indicator 3 may be loosely mounted on sleeve 14 above flange 13 by means of an appropriate eye 16 borne by said shank, there being a circular groove 17 in said shank surrounding said eye and centered substantially in the axial center of post 7, said circular groove 17 being posed opposite to a corresponding circular balls 19 to provide aball-bearing between said'shank and said flange to facilitate the rotation of indicator 3 about the axial center of post 7 and around the axial center of sleeve ll, which sleeve is substantially a hollow cylinder open at both ends.
A reduced portion 20 borne by the upper end of sleeve 14 is adapted to fit snugly in an appropriate eye 21 borne by the shank of indicator 4, said indicator being rigidly mounted on said reduced'portion by means of said eye, said reduced portion being adapted to form a shoulder 22 to provide means for spacing the shank of indicator 4 away from flange 13 to permit the shank of indicator 3 to rotate freely therebetween on its ball-bearings and to permit indicator 3 to pass in a plane below indicator l during said rotation.
The upper end of post 7 may be 'adapted to extend above the upper end of reduced portion 20 of sleeve 14:, as shown in Fig. 2, and the shank of indicator 4: may be more securely held in place on said reduced portion by means of a washer 23 and cotter pin 24, said cotter pin being inserted through an appropriate opening 25 therefor transversely through said upper end of post 7.
Indicators 3 and f may be weighted, as, for instance, at 26 and 27, respectively, to facilitate the free rotation of said indicators on their bearings, said weighted portion may be either enlarged or thickened portions of the indicators formed integrally therewith or they may be separate members secured to the indicators by any suitable means, such, for instance, as by means of solder.
The construction of parts shown in the drawings and described herein is such that the shank of indicator A being rigidly mounted on reduced portion 20 of rotatable.
sleeve 14, said indicator 4 will rotate with the rotation of said sleeve upon its pivotal bearing, rigid post 7, and the shank of indicator 3 being loosely mounted on sleeve 14, said indicator 3 will rotate freely about the axial center of post 7 as the shank of said indicator rotates about said sleeve, which sleeve forms the pivotal bearing for the shank of said indicator 3, thus indicators 3 and 4 may be rotated about the axial center of post 7 independently of each other.
The game may be played with this device as follows: The two indicators are set together at the hour of 12 and are. then simultaneously given an impulse to spin around dial 2 toward the right and must at least once around the dial else the 1 makes no score and loses his turn. the indicators upon traveling at least once around the dial stop at such positions as to indicate 5 minutes or a multiple thereof after any hour the player shall count 1 point upon his score, except in the case when the indicators stop in positions to indicate 15, 30, or 45 minutes after the hour the player shall have 2 points on his score; if the indicators stop in such positions as to indicate any one of the twelve hours the player shall have, as many points .on his score as the number of the hour indicated, except in the case of the hour of 12, which shall count 25 points or the total of the game for the player. We claim:
1. A gamedevice comprising a base bearing a circular scale, av rigid post affixed to the base in the axis of the scale, a sleeve rotatable freely about said post, a pointer fastened at one end to said sleeve toturn therewith and arranged to project at its other end over said scale, a second pointer parallel to the first pointer pivoted at one end on said sleeve and turning independently thereof, and a weight on the free end of each pointer.
2. A game device comprising a base bearing a circular scale, a rigid post aflixed to the base in the axis of the scale and having a horizontal flange or disk bearing on the base, a sleeve provided with a flange or disk on its lower end rotatable freely about said post, anti-friction balls between said flanges or disks, a pointer fastened at one end to said sleeve to turn therewith and arranged to project at its other end over said scale, a second pointer parallel to the first pointer having a disk on one end pivoted to said sleeve and turning independently thereof, anti-friction balls between said disk and the flange or disk on the sleeve, and a weight on the free end of each pointer.
3. A game device comprising a base having a circularly arranged scale thereon, a rigid post on the base at the axis of the scale, a sleeve rotatable freely about said post, a pointer secured at one end of said sleeve to turn therewith and having its free end adapted to transverse said scale, a second pointer disposed below the first mentioned pointer and parallel therewith, said second pointer being pivotally mounted at one end on the sleeve and turning independently thereof, a weight carried on the upper surface of the first pointer, and a weight caused by the under surface of the second pointer.
