Description
PETER L'WEIMER.
Improved Tweer.
I Patented August 8, 1871.
fum
PATENT OFFICE.
PETER L. WEIMEB, OF LEBANON, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TUVERES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,947, dated August 8, 18771.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER L. WEIMER, of Lebanon, in the county of Lebanon and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Tuyere; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making part of this specication, in which- Figure l is a side view of the improved tuyere. Fig. 2 is a diametrical section through the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding` parts in both gures.
.In the process of manufacturing' tuyeres which are composed of a wrought-iron coil and a castiron body it has been the practice hitherto to coil the pipe by machinery adapted for the purpose and then cast the metal body about the coil. This process is expensive in manipulation and material, and otherwise objectionable.
The improvement which I have made consists in a spirally-grooved cast-metal shell, around.
which is coiled the pipe or tube, as will be hereinafter explained.
The following is a description ofthe improved tuyere:
In the accompanying drawing, A represents a cast-iron shell of the form of the frustum of a cone, which is cast with a spiral groove, o, runnin g around its outer surface from one end tothe other, and which is also cast with a slit, c, through it, for allowing free expansion and contraction. Around this grooved shell, and in the grooves thereof, is a coiled pipe, B, which is easily applied after the shells are made as described. The slit a will allow the heated pipe to contract after it is coiled on the shell.
Having described my invention, I claim- 1. The split and grooved east-iron tuyere-shell A, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with such shell, ofthe coiled pipe B, substantially as set forth.
' PETER L. VEIMER.
