Description
E. KRAUSE.
THRESHOLD.
APPLICATION man SEPT. 4. 1915.
Patented Apr. 11, 1916.
THE COLUMBIA PLANOGRAPN CO" WASHINGTON, D- C.
ERNEST KBAUSE, OF EL PASO,
THRESHOLD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 4, 1915. Serial No. 49,073.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, ERNEST KRAUSE, a citizen of the'United States, residing at El Paso, in the county of El Paso and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thresholds; and I do herebydeclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
' with the bottom of the door, and will prevent the entrance of dust, wind, rain or snow. 7
The invention is also especially intended toprovidea threshold which will be cheap and simple in construction and may be readily adjusted to any particular door.
lVith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel details of construction and in the combination and ar rangement of partswhich will be hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which similar parts are indicated by similar reference symbols throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 1s a perspectlvel view of the threshold, the door being indicated 1n. dotted lines; Fig. :2 is a plan view of the device shown in Fig. 1, parts being broken away; and Fig. 8 shows a section along the line 33 of Fig. 2 and looking in the direction of the arrows, the parts being on a larger scale than in the other figures.
A. represents the bottom of the door,"B the flooring and C the threshold which consists primarily of a plate of resilient metal, such as steel, brass, or the like, arched as at 1, and having laterally-projecting flanges 2 and 3, each flange being provided with a slot 4, and each slot having a series of indentations 5 adapted to engage the clamp screws 6 and 6 The flange 3 is bent under, as shown at 7 in Fig. 3, and terminates in a vertical rib 8, through which pass the screw bolts 9 engaging the nuts 10. The heads 11 of these screw bolts are shouldered, and engage the shoulders 12 formed in the body of r the plate 1, as shown most clearly in Fig. 3.
In order to mount the threshold, it is placed in the doorway in substantially the My present invention relates to improvemay be.

position shown in Fig. 3, and the clamp screws 6 aresecured in place, then the screw bolts 9 areturned until the arch 1 of the threshold plate fits snugly against the'bottom of the door, and then the screws S are screwed home, and the device is ready for use.
The resiliency of the threshold plate will enable the central portion 1 to be arched more or less by simply turning up or easing down the screw bolts 9, causing the arched portion 1 to be raised or lowered as the case By'having the slots 4L provided, with a series of notches 5, as shown, the .clamp screws 6 and 6 may be readily inserted so as to avoid scams orknots. in the flooring or thelikeg Thus it will be seen that I provide an adjustable threshold made'of substantially a single resilientplate-of metal, which maybe readily placed in position and read ily adjusted to fit the bottom of the door, and the resiliency of themetal will always form a tight oint while the door is closed.
Whilethe device is especially applicable for use as a threshold withdoors, it will be obvious that it may also be used in place of ekweather strip for windows, gates, or the It is obvious that those skilled in the art may vary the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention, and therefore I do not.
wish to beilimited to such features except as set out in the claims. I
' Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. threshold comprising a single plate of resllient metal having an arched central portion and laterally-projecting flanges, said portion and laterally-projecting flanges, said flanges beingprovided with elongated slots with lateral notches in said slots, and one of said flanges being bent inward and tern1inating in an upwardly-projecting rib with screw bolts projecting from the opposite side of the arch, and passing through said up: wardly-projecting rib, and nuts bearing against said rib and engaging said screw bolts, the arched portion of said plate being provided with shoulders to engage the heads of said screw bolts, substantially as described.

ERNEST KRAUSE.
