To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Mans on Sonnnnu, a citizen of the United States, residin at New York city, in the county of New ork and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Elastic Apparel-Belts, of which the following is a specification. I

My invention relates to apparel belts made of elastic or stretchable leather and my object is the production of a belt which will be flat, straight and neat in appearance.

In the drawing Figure 1 is a plan view of the elastic webbing foundation used in making my belt; Fig. 2 a sectional view of the web; Fig. 3 a view of the leather covered web; Fig. 4 a view of a portion of the finished belt and Fig. 5 a view of a finished belt. J

In making my belt I take apiece of elastic webbing 1 provided with the longitudinal rubber strands2, 2, 2, etc., (shown in solid black in the sectional views) and with the'portions 3, 3 spaced from the edges in which the rubber strands are omitted (shown in white in the sectional views) and saturate it with a suitable size. After the size is applied the webbing is next coated with a suitable elastic medium, such as arubber cement, the web being stretched to approximately its limit of elasticity when the elastic medium is ap lied. A strip of leather 4 is also stretched, ut not quite to its limit of elasticity, and coated with the elastic medium. The webbing and leather, both under tension, are next united and the medium permitted to dry. The leather strip is preferably wider than the webbing and the edges 5, 5 are turned over the edges of the web and secured to the other face as is best Specification of Letters Patent. The leather covered web is next folded at the portions 3, 3 (where the elastic strands are omitted) and the folded over edges may be secured to the body of the web by a suit able cement so that an integral structure is produced or they may be secured together at 6 by stitching as a tubular or semi-tubular belt. The use of the webbing with the omitted elastic strands 3, 3 is necessary to the production of'acommercial salable belt. If a web with uniformly distributed rubber strands is employed the folding over of the edges will twist and buckle the rubber strands lat the'fold and the result will be a belt which will not remain flattened and straightened. The belt thus made is provided with a suitable buckle and so far as appearances are concerned is an ordinary leather belt but possesses the advantages of greater flexibility and the ability to yield and stretch with the motions of the wearer avoiding any undue constriction.

I claim An apparel belt consisting of a foundation of elastic webbing, said webbing being provided with longitudinal elastic strands so disposed as to leave spaces free therefrom at a distance from each edge .and a covering of leather uniformly secured to the webbing, the composite structure being folded on the spaces free from elastic strands and fastened together.
