ROLLAND P. SMITH, BERL I.
Application filed May a, 1915. 'Serial m. 26,869.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ROLLAND P. SMITH, BERL I. SMITH, and LEONARD M. LAsLEY, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented v useful Improvements in Sales-Slip Tablets, of which thefollowing is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing, I
This invention relatesto a sales slip tablet and has for its object the production of a simple and efficient holder whereby the' sales slips may be conveniently and eflicientlyv supported to permit the salesman to easily record the sales upon the slip and retain the desired copies thereof for his own record.
Another object of this invention is the production of a simple and efiicient casing for supporting the paper roll in such a manner as to permit the several slips, that is to and copies thereof, to be say the original using the efiiciently recorded by the party holder. I d
Other objects and advantages of the present invention will appear throughout the following specification and claims.
In the accompanying drawing-Figure 1 is a perspective view of the holder. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the casing of the holder, several parts thereof being shown in an open position. Fig. 3 is a perspective I View of the main casing of the holder showing the upper portion swung backwardly from the roller supporting portion thereof; Fig. through the casing. Fig. 5 is a top plan view of the connector for holding ,or supporting the holder upon the belt or garment of the clerk or user of the device. 'Fig. 6 is an enlarged section showing the manner of holding the carbon copies between the several layers of retaining sheets.
By referring to the drawing it will be seen that 1 designates the main casing, which main casing is provided at one end with a pair of spaced ears 2 having sockets 3 formed therein. A roller 4 is detachably secured in the sockets 3 and is adapted to support a paper roll 5 clearly illustrated in Fig.4of the drawing. A cover6is hingedly secured to the body 1 as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3 and is provided with a centrally located aperture 7 to or recorded sheets 8' to be readily. viewed Specification of letters Paten 4: is a central longitudinal section.
\ tain a brief rec permit the recording SMITH, AND LEONARD M. LASLEY, or PORTLAND, OREGON.

I through the cover 6. This cover 6 is prov ded with a projecting edge 8 which is sharpened asindicated at 9 to permit the several layers of paper 10 to be torn off at holding the same in a closed position such as illustrated in Fig. 4. It. will, therefore, be seen that a compartment has been provided within the bodV 1 to retain or hold the carboncopies of the sales slips which have beenwi'itten'by the sales clerk. The
body 1 is provided upon each side with a latch member 14, and each latch .inember 14 'isprovidedwith a projecting knob 15' extending beyond the sides of the body 1 and is also provided With a beveled tongue 16 adapted to fit in the notches 17 formed in the side flanges 18 of the cover 6 and normally hold the cover 6 in a set or closed position upon the body 1. It should be understood that the latches 14 are preferably formed of spring metal and are fixedly -.se-
cured at their inner ends at 19 as illustrated l in Figs. 2 aud t of the drawing.
A carbon sheet holder 20 is supported upon the ears 2 of the body 1 in any suitable or desired manner, and comprises-a plurality of longitudinally extending rods to which the carbon sheets 21 are adapted to be secured. v 4
The cover 6 is provided with a plurality of superimposed; overhanging flanges 22, which overhanging flanges are adapted to constitute a retaining means for receiving the tally sheet-.23 which is adapted to conof all of the sales made by the sales clerk. .j'lt'should be understood that these sheets 23 may be readily placed under the flanges 22 and in this manner he firmly held in an eflicient position.
Upon carefully considering Fig. 2 it will be seen that the body l-comprises a face 29, a pair of side flanges 13, 13, and an end flange I3 and a compartment 6 for holding a roll'of paper, the door 11 constituting a closure for the bottom .of the body lunder normal conditions, and being closed as above stated by means of a spring 12.
A yoke 24- is secured to the body 1 by having its inwardly bent ends 25 fitting in the apertures 26 formed in the body 1. A
I link 27 is secured to the yoke 24c, and this link is in turn connected to the hook 28 as clearly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 5 of the drawing to permit the entire device .to be easily and conveniently supported upon the belt or garment of the-sales clerk.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that a very simple and efficient holder has been produced which will permit several copies of the sales sheet to be kept and conveniently supported withinthe body of the holder, and it should be further understood that the slips may be easily and conveniently torn from the sales slip Without rearranging the'sheets of carbon which are adapted to be supported between the. several layers of p p It, of course, should be understood that two or more layers of paper may be employed without departing from the spirit of the invention by merely multiplying the number of sheets upon the roll 5. It should be further understood-that a number of different rolls may be employed in place of the one roll illustrated without departing from the spirit of the invention. in the structure illustrated in Fig. A three layers of paper are wound upon the same roll.
Having thus described the inventionwhat is claimed. as new, is
1. A sales slip tablet comprising a body, a cover hinged thereto, a door hinged to the lower edge of said body, said body provided with a. pocket upon the lower face thereof adapted to be normally closed by said door, a roll carried-by said body, sheets carried by said roll and adapted to pass between the top of saidbody and the under face of said cover, a pigment interposed between the layers of said sheets, and means for facilitating the tearing of said sheets from said body as said roll is unwound.
2. A sales slip tablet comprising a body, a cover hinged thereto, a paper roll carried by said body, said roll comprising a plurality of coiled sheets, said sheets adapted to fit between the upper'face of said body and the lower face of said cover, said cover provided with a projecting sharpened end to facilitate the tearing'of said sheets from said body as said sheets are unwound from said roll, said body provided with a pocket upon the under face thereof, a door hinged to the lower face of said body, springs engaging said door and engaging said body for holding said door in a closed position, and means for holding said cover in a closed position upon said body.

by said body, said roll comprising a plurality of coiled sheets, said sheets adapted to fit between the upper face of said body and the lower face of said cover, said cover provided with a projecting sharpened end to facilitate the tearing of said sheets from said body as. said sheets are unwound from said roll, said body provided with a pocket upon the under face thereof, a door hinged to the lower face of said body, springs engaging said door and engaging said body for holding said door in a closed position, and spring latches carried by said body and engaging said cover for normally holding said cover in a closed position upon said body.
4. A sales slip tablet comprising a body, a cover hinged thereto, a paper roll carried by said body, said roll comprising a plurality of coiled sheets, said sheets adapted to fit between the upper face of said body and the lower face of said cover, said cover provided with a projecting sharpened end to facilitate the tearing of said sheets from said body as said sheets are unwound from said roll, said body provided with a pocket upon the under face thereof, a door hinged to the lower face of said body, springs engaging said door and engaging said body for holding said door in a closed position, latch springs secured to said body, said latch springs provided with projecting knobs for facilitating the releasing of said springs, said latch springs also provided with projecting tongues, and said cover provided with apertures formed therein for facilitating the receiving of said projecting tongues of said latch springs whereby said cover will be held in a closed position upon said body.
5. A sales slip tablet of the class described comprising a body, a cover hingedly secured thereto, a recording sheet carried by said body and passing between said cover and body, a receptacle formed in the bottom of said body for facilitating the storage of slips torn from said sales slip holder, a hanger secured to said body'for facilitating the attachment of said body to a support, a plurality of flanges carried by the upper face of said body, and a record slip engaging the under face of said flanges and adapted to be held in engagement with saidbody.
In testimony whereof we hereunto affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
