residing at Panama City, in the county of Bay and State of Florida,havefinventedy certain new and useful Improvements in Springs, of which the following is a specication, :reference being had;` to the: accompanying drawings. 'g l This invention relates to certain improvement-s in springs and has relation more particularly to a novel and improved spring adapted for use as a stop in connection with doors-or other movable bodies and wherein a portion of said spring is oset laterally to the remainder of the spring so that an unobstructed compression thereof may be effected.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and'illustrated in the accompanying drawing, lin which,

Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates av door frame of ordinary construction, in which is hingedly mounted a swinging screen door 2, and connected at one endrto one side of the door frame is a at spring 3, the free end of which engages against the outer face of the door to normally hold the same yin a closed position and to automatically close the door after the same has been opened and released. Arranged against the inner face of the outer side of the door frame is a stop strip 4. Substantially IVI-shaped springs 5 are connected at one end to the outer side of the door frame rearwardly of the strip, one of the springs being connected to the frame adjacent its upper end and the other spring adjacent its lower end, the opposite end lof each spring being connected to the strip 4, and the` springs normally forcing the strip outwardly within the frame, one end leg of each of the springs 5 being offset Specification of Letters Patent. i

Connected to the outer face of each of the wooden strips 4 and 6 is a rub- .ber or fabric cushioning strip 8, and the strips 4 and 6 are normally forced forwardly within the frame by the tension of the springs 5 and 7, so that the door engages the cushioning strips before the door has reached its tightly closed position. Y In the'practical use of my improved door stop, the stop strip 4 is connected to the inner face of the outer side of the door frame by the springs 5 and the stop strips 4 and 6 are pivotally connected at their inner ends to the top and bottom of the frame, the outer ends of the strips 4 and 6 being supported by the springs 7. The cushioning strips 8 are connected to the outer face of each of the strips, and when the door is hingedly connected `to the inner side of the door frame and the door closing spring 3 is connected at one end to the frame with its freev end engaged against the outer face'of the door, the door will-be automatically closed after the same has been opened by the tension of the spring 3 against the same. 3 is greater than the tension of the springs 5 and 7 the door will be swung to its closed position after the same has been released, and as the stop strips will have been forced outwardly within the frame after the door has been opened by reason of the tension of the springs 5 and 7, the door will engage the strips before it reaches its entirely closed position so that the tension of the spring 3 will force the strips inwardly, and the tension of the springs 5 and 7 will maintain the cushioning strips 8 on the outer faces of the stop strips in engagement with the inner face From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a spring constructed in accordance With my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature andis particularly Well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility With which it may be assembled, and it Will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modication Without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do 'not Wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement andrformation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice. i

What I desire to secure and claim by Letters Patent, is z- A. spring member consisting of a single length of material bent ,into substantially Vl-shape, one end leg of said member being ofset laterally throughout substantially its entire length, the remaining portion of the spring being disposed in substantially the same plane, the opposite extremities of the member being provided With anchoring means.
