Be it known that I, SIDNEY D. VVALDON, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Detroit, lVayne county, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Motor-Vehicles, of which the followinfJV is a specification.
This invention relates to motor vehicles, and particularly to the frame and the motor and to the means for supporting the motor in` the frame. t
One of the objects of the invention is to exibly support the motor in the vehicle frame so that the front end of the frame may weave without disalining the bearings of the motor, or throwing a strain upon the motor base or crank case.
Another object of the invention is to support the front end of the motor of a motor vehicle pivotally upon a cross member which extends downwardly beneath the front end of the motor, so that in the event of the failure of the pivotal connection the motor will still rest upon the cross member@ and will not drop out of the frame.
Another object of the invention is to so construct the front end of the motor of a moto-r vehicle that the front gear case c over thereor" may operate to retain in position the pivot pin upon which the motor is supported. a
Another object of the invention is to connect one of the cross supporting members of the motor directly with one of the bearing supporting members of the motor..

Referring to the drawings, 10 represents the forward parts'o the side bars of a motor vehicle frame, and 11 is the motor base or crank case comprising the upper half 12 and the lower half or crank case cover 13. Cylinders 14 are mounted upon the base 11 and the base is formed with laterally extending integral arms l5 adjacent the rear end, which armsrest upon and are bolted ,to the side members 10 of thei'rame.

Adjacent. to the front end of the motor and extending beneath it is a cross member A21 of U shape, which member rests upon the side bars 10 of the vehicle frame and is secured thereto as by the bolts 22.
The cross member 21 extends directly beneath the front end of theV crank shaft 16 and beneath the bearing piece 19, which bearing piece is formed with two downwardly extending integral lugs 19 passing on either side of the cross member 21. These lugs and the cross member are drilled to receive a pivot pin 23, which thereby pivotally connects the cross member and the bearing piece 19. V
The .motor base or crank case 11 is formed at the front end with a gear casing 24, which extends laterally of the motorand is closed by a front cover 25. This cover is properly bolted to the casing 24, being removable therefrom, and it is provided with an integral lug 26, which extends downwardly over the head of the pivot pin 23. Thus the pivot pin 23 cannot be withdrawn untilthe cover 25 is removed, so that the pivot pin 23 is eiiectually locked in place.
A specific embodiment of the invention has been described in detail, which embodiment is deemed to be new and advantageous, and will be specifically claimed, but it should be understood that the invention is not limited to the exact details of construction shown, as it will be apparent that changes may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a motor vehicle, the combination with the vehicle frame comprising side bars, of a motor comprising a base having laterally extending integral arms resting upon and rigidly secured to said side bars, a cross member at the front end of the motor also resting upon said side bars, said cross meinber extendingbeneath the front end of the motor and below the crank shaft thereof, and apivotal connection between said motor and said cross member.
2. In a motor Vehicle, the Combination with the motor having a front bearing for the Crank shaft thereof, a bearing piece for said bearing, said motor also having a front end Cover, of a. cross member extending be neath said bearing piece, and a pivot pin connecting said cross member and said bearing piece, said front lcover :having a portion extending over said pivot pin for holding the latter in place.
3. In a motor vehicle, the combination With the motor7 of `a bearing piece for supporting the front bearing of the crank shaft,
means connected to said bearing piece for supporting the front end of the motor on the vehicle frame,I and a bottoni cover for` said motor joined to said bearing piece in the rear of said connection.
