ALICE GARRETT LEE, OF COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO.
BANDEAU.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 28, 11916.
Application filed December 18, 1914. Serial No. 877,934.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALICE G. LEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Colorado Springs, in the county of El Paso and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bandeaux, of which the following is a specification.
An object of the invention is to provide a bandeau for use in securing the hair.
The invention contemplates, among other features, the provision of a strip-like member which is adapted to be passed around the hair to secure the same and which at the same time will present a neat and effective appearance, thus being adjustable so that it can be lengthened or shortened to suit the wearer.
In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the device applied; Fig. 2 is a fragmentary bottom plan view of the device; and Fig. 3 is a fragmentary lon itudinal sectional View taken through one of the clasps.
Referring more particularly to the views, I provide an elastic band 10 which is preferably made narrow and which has one end thereofsecured to a wire-like member 11 bent in a loop to encircle and secure a button 12 thereon and at the said end of the band. The band is arranged to slide through a second wire-like member 13 formed into a loop 14, within which the band slides and the free end of the band has attached thereto a buckle or securing member 15 which permits of lengthening or shortening the band, said buckle or securing member being adapted to be secured rigidly to the band or slidable thereon. The member 13 after the formation. of the loop 14 is again looped to encircle a clasp 16 which is adapted for connection with the button112, the button and clasp being similar to the button and clasp of a glove.
The entire device, namely, the elastic band, the buckle or securing member and the button and clasp are all made of the Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the same color and which color is adapted to conform to the color of the hair. The band, in use, is arranged to encircle a portion of the head to secure the hair, and the ends of the device are secured together by the button and clasp.
From the foregoing description it will be seen thatthe device can be adjusted as to length so as to suit the head of the wearer and can be readily arranged upon the head and as easily removed therefrom without disturbing or mussing up the hair.
The device is essentially intended as a hair securing member and is therefore preferably termed a bandeau in that it fits around the hair, it being readily understood that the device can be adjusted in various positions on the hair, and whereas in one instance it may be arranged to encircle the head adjacent the forehead, in other instances it may be arranged at the back of the head to encircle a bulging portion of the hair. It may also be conveniently employed to secure a psyche knot or anv other desired shape or configuration of the hair which contemplates the use of a securing member such as that described.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
As a new article of manufacture, a bandeau comprising an adjustable elastic band, a wire-like member. a clasp, said wire-like member being bent at one of its ends to provide a loop through which the elastic band passes. the opposite end of the said wire-like member being bent to encircle said clasp for securing the same to the said end of the band, and a second wire-like mem er formed at one end in a loop to which the band is connected. a button. the said second wire-like member being again looped at its opposite end to encircle said button for securing the latter thereto. the said button be ing adapted to engage in the said clasp for connecting the bandeau in applied position.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
Mas. ALICE GARRETT LEE.
