IMPROVEMENT IN COMPOSITIONS FOR COATING SHINGLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,647, dated August 1, 1871,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THoMAsJ. LANGLEY, of East Cambridge, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Composition for Coating Shingles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention relates to an improved composition for shingles, slate being a prominent ingredient of the same, so that the appearance and many of the qualities, Without the correspondin g cost, weight, 850., of genuine slate shingles, may be imparted to those made of Wood. The compound consists of the following ingredients, in about the proportions named, to Wit: Bright varnish, one quart; petroleum, crude, threefourths of a quart; resinoil, one quart; ultramarine blue, eight ounces; bolted slate, four pounds; fine salt, three ounces; calcined plaster, two ounces.
