UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
B. F. WOODSIDE, OF MCDONALD STATION, TENNESSEE.
IMPROVEMENT IN PERCUSSlON-CAPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent ,No. 105,874, dated July 26,1870; antedatcd July 15, 1870.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, B. F. WOODSIDE, of McDonald Station, in the county of Bradley, and inthe State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Goinpositions for Percussion-Gaps and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and theletters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, A represents a percussioncap molded or constructed of paper-pulp, having a sufficient mixture of wool or hair to give flexibility to the article, and filled with any of the known substances, materials, or compositions used for the purpose, and dipped in collodion or shellac when the cap is to be made water-proof.
The advantage of this cap over all others now.
in common use is that it will not burst and fly so as to cut the hands or face or injure the eye when exploded, as well as the facility and eheapness of its manufacture, and also that it will not corrode when exposed to damp.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a percussion-eap composed of paper-pulp, as a basis, mixed into which is a small quantity of hair, the exteriorsurface being coated with collodion or shellac, all constructed as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 10th day of December, 1867.
B. F. WOODSIDE.
