Description

J. HUTTER.
WALL PLUG.
APPLICATION FMED JUNE 24,1915.
Patented Mar; 21, 1916.
J'QSEF BUTTER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
WALL-race.
Specification of,Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 211, 19116.
I Application filed June 24, 1915. Serial No. 36,043.
, To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, Josnr HUTTER, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wall-Plugs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in means for securing objects upon the face of blank walls comprised of cement, mortar, brick, stone or the like, non-receptive of common fastenings, as screws or nails.
The objects of the invention are, first, to provide a firmly secured anchorage, rigidly set in a suitable opening formed in the wall to contain the device.
7 A second object is to provide, as a commercial product, such devices in forms ready for immediate application and use at a moderate cost.
These objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts, hereinafter described and shown in the annexed drawing, forming an essential part of this specification, and in which .Figure 1 is aside elevational view of a fragmentary portion of brick wall, showing the anchorage in position. Fig. 2 is a front view. of one form of the assembled anchorage. I Fig. 3 is a sectionalyiew, taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2, showing the block expanded. Fig. 4 is a partial sectional and perspective View of the block. Fig. '5 is a perspective view of the wedge or plug, and
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the tubular retaining bolt drawn to .a larger scale.
In the application of the device it is necessary to" form an opening in the wall b means of a chisel or other suitable tool, the opening to have a cross section as near as possible to that of the block 10 and of such depth that the block may be received wholly within; it will be understood that while the block is shown cylindrical and preferred in that shape that the exact form is immaterial and that the size or proportions may be varied to suit conditions.
The block 10 is preferably made of soft wood, the grain of which is lengthwise for reasons well understood.- Extending across one end is a V shaped opening 11', the converging beveled walls 12 of which meet at approximately two thirds of the entire length of the block, from the front or-outer end, where the distance across from side to side of the walls .is
is a similar opening 18, in register with the opening 16, and contained in it is an internally threaded, tubular bolt 19, the head 20 of which is against the back or inner end of the block 10, and prevented from turning by means of spurs 21 formed with the head.
In operation, a suitable aperture having been made in the wall,-the block 10 is inserted, and. the end of the plug 14 entered in the wedge shaped opening 11; the plug is then driven intothe block,'causing it to split and the two sides be forced apart in such manner as to firmly engage with the interior walls of the opening, forming a secure anchorage for the support of any objects at satisfactory means for securing articles to walls, that can be applied without the employment of an artisan and which is far superior to the common and uncertain attempts at driving a nail into walls of the character mentioned.
Having thus described the invention and indicated the manner of its application and use, what I claim as new and desire'to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a device of the class described, the combination with a compressible fibrous cylinder having a wedge-shaped opening extending transversely across one end, and .a rectangular plug adapted to be forced. into the mentioned opening through said cylinder, said plug having a central longitudinal passage edges of said plug, and spurs in said flange Witnesses:
therethrough, an internally screw-threaded Signed at New York, in the county of sleeve extending into said passage from the New York and State of New York this ninth rear, afianged head formed with said sleeve, day of June A. D., 1915.
said head extending laterally beyond the Y v JOSEF HUTTER.
adapted to engage the inner end of said I FRANCIS NEKA DA, cylinder. Enron Gonsrn,
