BARREL-HEATER.
Application filed February 3, 1915.
and claimed.
The object ofmy invention is to construct a barrel heater, having a drum hingedly vet detachably mounted upon a base so that the drum may be tilted or removed and a means for supporting the drum when in a tilted position so that the interior of the heater may be easily and readily cleansed.
Figure 1, is a front view of my complete invention. Fig. 2, is a fragmental view showing the slotted rib which acts as the hinge fcr the drum. Fig. 3, is a detail perspective view of a portion of the drum and ase showing the arrangement and construction of the hinge.
In the construction of my invention, I provide a base 4, in which is placed an ashpan 5, the upper portion of the base is provided with a rim 6, and formed upon the rim is a pair of ears 7, through which is passed a pin 8.
On the top of the rim is removably mounted a drum 9, of suiiicient size to permit a barrel to be placed over the same and rest upon the rim 6. The said drum is provided with a plurality of ribs 10, which taper at an angle from the surface of the drum downwardly and outwardly to the rim, the said ribs acting as a guide to properly center the barrel around the drum.
One of the ribs 10, is provided with a slot 11, which is designed to fit over the pin Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 21, 1916.
Serial No. 5,845.
8, carried by the ears 7, and when said rib is properly inserted between the ears, the same acts as a hinge and permits the drum to be tilted in the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1. The object of constructing a hinge of this nature, is to permit the drum to be easily and readily removed without removing the pin carried by the ears.
On the top of the drum is placed a cap 12, on which is mounted a flue door 13, and on the cap is formed a lug 1 1-, to which is hingedly carried a supporting rod 15.
The essential feature of my invention is the hinging and tilting of the drum on the base, so that access may be had to the fire box in the base and the interior of the drum.
Heretofcre barrel heaters have been constructed in a manner that in order to gain access to the interior, it is necessary to remove bolts and lift the entire drum off of the base.
A barrel heater of my construction can be tilted in the position as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1, no matter how hot the drum might be.
Having fully described my invention what I claim is:
A barrel heater comprising a base, a rim forming the top of said base, a drum having a plurality of tapered ribs, one of said ribs provided with a slot, a pair of ears formed on the rim between which the slotted rib is inserted, a suppcrting rib hingedly attached to the top of the drum for supporting said drum when in a tilted position, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
