Description
UNITED STATES PATRICK HENRY STARKE, OF RICHMOND, VIRGINIA.
IMPRovl-:MENT IN PLows.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,574, dated August 1, 1871.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, PATRICK HENRY STARKE, of Richmond, in the county of Henrico and State of Virginia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plow; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specication, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved plow. Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view of another formof mold-board.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention consists in an improved con struction of standard for turn-plows, as hereinafter fully described and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
B is the point, C the mold-board, D the landside, E the beam, and I I the handles of a turnplow. A represents my standard, which is inclined rearward and curved on the front edge to prevent it from gathering grass and roots and becoming choked. The upper part has a forward projection or bearing, a', and a rear one, F, for
the beam. The rear bearing or projection F is slotted in the arc of a circle, whose center is in. the front bearing a. The latter overlaps the beam on its top surface.` The beam E is thus provided with a journal-stud, G, which turns in bearings a', while the bolt H traverses the arcslot of thev bearing or projection F. The beam may be fastened at any point in this slot by any suitable fastening device, but I prefer the double ratchet shown in Fig. 2 of drawing.
By turning the beam E on its center of motion at G the plow may be made to run deep or shallow.
Having thus described all that is necessary to` a full understanding` of my invention, what I esteem to be new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
'Ihe plow-standard A, having projection a overlapping` the top of the beam, and the arcslotted projection F, combined with a beam, E, having' the studs G H, to enable the said beam to be turned on a center at G, and thereby regulate the depth ofthe plow.
PATRICK HENRY STARKE.
