Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. '7, 1916.
To all 'whom z'z may concern:
yBe it knownthat I, JOHN H. FARRELL,
a citizen of the United States, residing. at New York city, in the county of New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to bottles and has special reference to a bot-tle of the type called non-reillable.
The principal object of the invention is to improve and simplify the general construction of devices of this character.
A second object of the invention is to provide a bottle having a plurality of valves arranged in such relation to each other as to prevent refilling of the bottle.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in general of certain details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views and Figure 1 is a side elevation of a. bottle partly in section and showing the valves in position. Fig. 2 is a detail section through the valves and outer valve cage. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 1 is a section on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2.
In carrying out. the objects of this vinvention I provide an ordinary bottle 1() having a neck 11 provided with a groove 12 just below the mouth. Over this neck is fitted a case 13 of glass, the casing being beaded into the groove 12 while hot and being cemented or welded to the bottle as at 14. This casing is preferably termed the outer neck and the upper part is turned at right angles to the bottle and equipped with a mouth 15 which may be of any preferred form without altering the spirit of the invention, but, which in any event, is slightly larger than the neck 11. Suitably secured,
as by oementing or welding, in this neck 13 is a valve cage 17 wherein is fitted a seat 18 having a beveled inner end 19. Slidable in the cage is a vvalve 20 arranged to sit upon the seat 18 and the cage is provided With a series of ports 21 in the outer part of said cage these ports being located in the side wall. This outer portion projects into the mouth 15. The valve 20 is of the check valve type and seating on the mouth of the neck 11 is a second valve 22 also of the check valve type. The movement of this latter valve is restricted by the inwardly projecting end 19 of the valve seat member 1S.
When the bottle is ready for filling the outer neck 13 has not been applied so that the valve 22 can readily be removed and the bottle filled in the ordinary way. Then the valve 22 is dropped into position and the outer neck with its equipment secured on the inner neck 11. It will be obvious that by tilting the bottle with the mouth 15 downward, the contents will readily iow out while in o-rder to attempt to lill the bottle it will be necessary to turn the mouth 15 upward which will result in the valve 20 seating and thus prevent liquid from getting into the body of the bottle.
It is to be noted that it is preferred to make the angular portion of the outer neck 18 through mouth so that the mouth 15 will no-t project beyond the sides of the bottle and thus making packing and storing easy.
There has thus been provided a simple and efficient device of the kind described and of the character specified.
It will be obvious that many minor changes may be made in the form and construction of this invention without departing from the material principles thereof. It is not therefore desired to co-nne the invention to the exact form herein shown and described but it is wished to include all such as come properly within the scope of the claim. l
I claim- The combination with a bottle provided with a neck, of a check valve seated in the opening of said neck, a seco-nd neck secured to the first neck and having an angularly directed portion terminating in a mouth, a In testimony whereof, I aix my Ysignavalvecpage helld in said angular portion and ture, inthe presence of two Witnesses. provi ed Witi outlet ports, a valve seat f 4 Y member arranged at the innerend of said JOHN H' cage and projecting over the first mentioned Witnesses :l va1ve,. and a cheek valve mounted in the Y `W1LLIAM J. ROBBINS, cage and closingvsaid member. Y r- ARTHUR BENSEL.
