JOHN GEORGE GLOVER, OF'LACHINE, QUEBEC, CANADA.
BELL AND SWITCH OPERATING MEANS.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that 1, JOHN a subject of the King'of Great Britain, re-
chine, Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certam new and useful Improvements .in Bell and Switch Operating Means; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will'enable oth ers skilled in the art to which it appertainsto make and use the same. 1
The invention to be hereinafter described relates to bell and switch operating means. In order to more clearly disclose the construction, operation, and use of the inven- -tion', reference should be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of the pres ent application.
Throughout the several figures of the drawings like reference characters designate the same parts.
-The sin'gl figure of the drawings is a central longitudinal'section through the device.
The main objects of the invention are, to
. provide a neat, compact, efficient, and durablemeajns forringing electric door bells, and 1 the'like, and, at the same time, lighting a means maylight within the house, which also be used. as an ordinary ush' button switch from within the house, i desired.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 designates a push button casing ofsuitable construction which is secured on the outer faceof the door frame 2, in the usual manner.
A rod 3 of suitable non-conductive material is slidably operative through the door frame and projects, at its outer end, into the casing 1, so as to normally engage .the the push button 1. projects into a able material, set'into the innerface of the door casing orframe, and engages one arm of a yoke 6 pivotally mounted on a standard 7 secured in the casing-and held in proper position by tension'springs 8 secured to the inner end of each arm thereof and to the inner end of the standard.
A contact plate 9 is secured around rod 3, in the casing 1, in such a position the button 1 is pushed inwardly, tact with the two terminal posts it will con- 10 secured in the bottom of the casing. These two posts are connected with the wires 11 and 11 of the two sides of a bell circuit so that, by pushing the button, the bell is rung inthe Specification of Letters Patent.

- ''usual manner. The rod 3 is normally held I GEORGE GLovnR,
out by the action of a coil spring 12 mounted thereabout and confined between the bottom of casing 1 and a pin passed through the rod.
When rod 3 is forced inwardly it raises one arm of yoke 6 and depresses the other arm so as to force a cylindrical head 13 carried-th'ereby between two spring contacts 14 secured to the'bottom of casing 5, which cooperates to. form a spring clip. When the pressure onrod 3 is released the balance tension springs 8 act to hold the head 13 in close contact with members 14 which are directly connected to binding posts 15 connected to'the opposite sides of a light circuit controlling a hall light, or the like. By this fmeans, the hall light, or, if preferred, a
porch light, is lighted. when the bell is rung and it is possible to see who is at the door, or to have a light in from inside the house the button 17 ispushed-in. This operation in no way affects the bell circuit and serves the same purpose as an ordinary push button switch.
It is thought that the construction, operation and use of the invention will be clear from the preceding detailed description.
Changes may be -made in the construction, arrangement, and disposition of the several parts of the invention without in any way departing from the field and scope of the same as defined in the appended claims, andit is meant to include all such within this application wherein only a preferred form has been disclosed.
-Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent isz' I 1. Ina deviceof the character described, a casing, terminal posts mounted therein, a
boxing, a spring clip mounted .therein and adapted to be connected to an electric circuit, a pivotally mounted yoke providedeon one arm'with a member. adapted to engage with the said spring clip when such arm is ing the said terminal posts, and independthe hall, as desired. To- .turn ofi the light it is only necessary to push in the inside button 16 of the boxing 5' ent means for rocking the said yoke in I either direction on its pivot.
a casing; terminal posts 2. In a device of the character described, a casing, terminal posts mounted therein,a boxing, spring contacts mounted therein so as to form a spring clip and adapted to be connected to an electric circuit, a yoke pivotally mounted inthe said casing and provided on one arm with a'head adapted to engage the said spring clip when that arm in the said casing when the rod is forced raising the deinwardly, and means for pressed arm of the said yoke.
3. In a device of the character described; mounted therein; a boxing; a standard mounted therein; a yoke pivotally mounted thereon and provided, on one arm, With'a cylindrical head,
spring contact members mounted in the said boxing, beneath the said head, and adapted to be connected to an electric circuit; a slidably operative rod having one end extend-- ing into the said boxing and in contact with the arm of the said yoke not provided with the'head, and its other end extending into the'said casing; a coil spring mounted about the said rod and adapted to hold it out; a contact plate carried by the said rod and adapted to electrically connect the said terminal posts in the casing when the rod is forced inwardly; a push button mounted in said casing in contact with the outer end of said rod; and push buttons mounted in thesaid boxing normally in contact with the arms of the said yoke. v
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in'the presence of two witnesses.
