IMPROVEMENT IN CLAMPS FOR ENTERING BLIND-SLATS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES CHURCH, of the city and county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Clamp for Entering the Slats of Blinds, of which the following' is a specification:
My invention consists of a number of springclamps, each of which is formed so as to firmly grasp a blind-Slat, the clamps being strung upon a rod and held in place thereon by set-screws. The clamp isused for placing and holding the slats in the proper position for their pivots to e11- ter the holes in the stile.
Figure l is a perspective view of a portion of a stile-bar and four slats, Which latter are held in position for entering by a clamp at each end. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the clamps detached.
A is a portion of a stile. B are ordinary blindslats attached by staple-joints to a hand-bar, C.
I) is a rod, and E collars adjustable on said rod, and held in position thereon by set-screws F. G is a lug extending from the side of the collar, and to which are riveted the clamping-sprin gs H, preferably in the manner sh0\vnna1nely, with one side of the spring irrnlyheld against the rectangular shoulder e of the collar, so that a single rivet is sufficient for the attachment ofthe springs 5 but I do not conflnemyself to this mode of attachment, or to the form of springs shown. For instance, the springs may be of Wire and screwed or riveted in the collar. The spring-fingers H form the slat-holder, and are preferably bent, as
shown, so as to have two bearings upon the slat one at the upper edge and the other about the thickest part-so as to operate equally Well on slats of different sizes, (which would not be the case Were the fingers so formed that the holders would have a continued bearing from edge to center upon any particular size or formation of slat.) a are holes in the stile for the reception of the Slat-pivots.
The slats being attached at their mid-lengths Vto the hand-bar C, and the collars being arranged at the proper distances on the rod, the slats are raised upon their edges by means of the hand-bar and a clamp applied by pressing down the holders upon the slats close to the hand-bar; the clamp is then slid out to the ends of the slats, :as shown, and another clamp applied to the other ends of the slats the pivots are then in position to enter their bearings a, and the stiles are readily applied. Without the use of my clamp the entering of the slats is a very uncertain operation, as While en-v tering one pivot several frequently drop out.
I claim as my invention- The clamp, composed of a number of holders, E H, upon a rod D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
