JOHN BEAHAN, OF CLEABFIELD, PENNSYLVANIA.
WINDOW-SCREEN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 29, 1916.
Application filed April 5, 1915. Serial No. 19,274.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN BEAHAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Olearfield, in the county of Olearfield, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window- Screens; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in window screens and particularly to adjustable Window screens.
One object of the invention is to provide a novel window screen which is adjustable both vertically and laterally so that it can fit windows of different heights and different widths.
Another object is to provide a novel means for holding the adjustable parts of the screen in proper alinement while being adjusted.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing; in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a screen made in accordance with my invention, Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical section on the line 22 of Fig. 1, the screen extended, Fig. '3 is an enlarged transverse section on the line 33 of Fig. 1, and F g.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, the screen comprises four corner sections A, B, O and D, each of which comprises a pair ofstrips 10 and 11 connected together to form a right angle- The strips of each section overlap the strip of each adjacent section, as clearly shown in the drawing. Formed in the abuttingfaces ofthe strips are the undercut grooves 12, and 18 respectively. Carried by the outer end of each of the strips 10 and 11 is a bolt Copies of this patent may be obtained for 4: is a perspective view. of one of the metal slides removed.
14:, the head of which is substantially L- shaped as at 15, and slides in the groove of the strip of the adjacent section.
Carried by the outer ends of the strips of each of the sections A, B, G, and D is an angular U-shaped strip of metal 16 which engages in the grooves of the strips of adjacent sections, so that these strips can readily slide in proper alinement. On the outer ends of the bolts 1 1 are wing nuts 17 for tightly clamping the adjacent sections in adjusted position. These bolt adjustments are to adapt the screen for windows of different Widths, as well as heights.
Each of the corner sections A, B, O, and D carries a screen section 18 both of the exposed edges of which are bound as indicated at 19 and carry hook-shaped members 20 which engage the binding strips of the adjacent screen sections.
What is claimed is: p
A window screen comprising corner sections, each including a pair of grooved strips joined together and a section of screen attached thereto, the strips of each section sliding on the adjacent strips of the adjacent sections, metal U-shaped members disposed in the grooves of the abutting faces of the strips, bolt members carried by the second of the strips and provided with L- shaped heads engaged in the grooves of the abutting strips, clamping nuts carried by the bolts, the exposed edges of the screen sections being provided with suitable metal bindings, and hook members formed on the bindings for engagement with the binding strips of the adjacent screen sections to insure proper insect-proof joints where the screen sections pass each other.
.In testimony whereof, I' afiix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
, JOHN BEAHAN. Witnesses:
