To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that L-Tnoms A. Kermit, r a citizen of the United Statm of America,
residing at Pittsbur h. in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have mvented certain new and useful Improvements in Feeding Devices for Breast-Drills. of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying This invention relates to feeding devices for breast drills, and has for its object to means, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, for feeding a drilling tool to the work during the operation of the drill.
A further object of the invention is to provide a feeding device for drills, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, whereby the dull 1s maintained in operative position when operating upon the work and furthermore where by the drill can be fed to the work while maintained in an operating position.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a feeding device for the purpose set forth which is simple in its construction and arrangement, wong, durable, efiicient and convenient in its use, readily set up and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically de scribed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scolple of the claims hereunto appended.

Referring tothe drawing and by way of example, a rectangular support 1 is illustrated and upon which is arranged the work 2, which is to be ted upon, the work being in the form 0 a plate.
'Ihereferencecharacter3 denotesadrill carried by a chuck 4, the latter being rotated through the medium of the beveled rs 5, 6 and 7 inthe-known manner. -The audio 8 is provided for rotating the gear 6.
The reference character 9 denotes a shank or stem provided with a breast piece 10.
A feeding device in accordance with this invention is adapted to be connected to the breast piece 10 and includes an inverted cupshaped body portion 11, formed with slots 12 for the reception of the breast piece 10, the latter projecting from each side of the body portion 11.
Formed integral with the body portion 11 is a cylindrical extension 13, formed with peripheral threads 14, these latter engaging with the threads 15. formed on the inner face of a sleeve 16. The latter being closed at one end as at 17 and the said closed end 17 has projecting therefrom a lug 18, having a pointed end 19 extending in a pocket 20 formed in the lower face of an abutment plate 21. The plate 21, when the drill is used vertically, is positioned against a support or when used horizontally, is positioned against a support. As illustrated the plate 21 is positioned against the top bar 22 of the support 1. The body portion 11 is clamped to the breast piece 10 by the clamping screws 23, these latter being disposed at right angles with respect to the breast piece 10.
The feeding device not only provides means for maintaining the drill in tion to operate upon the work, but also provides means wh the operation thereof.
In Fig. i of the drawings, the feeding device is disclosed as connected'to an ordinary brace 24, having a head 25, which is seated in the body portion 11 and maintained in position by the clamping scr'ews 23.
From the foregoing construction and arrangement of parts, it is obvious that by rotating the sleeve 16 in one direction, the body portion 11 will be forced in a direction toward the drill 3 carrying the latter there with as it operates upon the work. at the. same time the drill being maintained in operative position, as the plate 21 will be constantly forced against the support 22. By rotating the sleeve 16 in op 'on, the drill can be withdrawn from the work and removed from the support.
What I claim is:-
1. A feeding device for hand drills, comprising a body portion provided with means for the breast piece or the brace erebythedrillcanbefedduring' said extension.
2. A f device fol-hand drills, comrising a y portion comp an inerted cu shsged portion provided with notches :1 pt to engage the breast plate of a breast drill and also with clamping screws, a. threaded extension from the body 10 portion, and a sleeve adapted to engage an abutment and threaded upon said extension.
