MULTIROUTE RAILWAY TICKET.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 9, IeIa.
,JUDSON LA BARRE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
MULTIROUTE RAILWAY-TICKET.
Application filed September 9, 1913.`
To all whoa/M115 may concern:
Be it known that I, JUDsoN LA BARRE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Multiroute Railwayent improved ticket and comprises an agents stub, a plurality of passage coupons and a contract portion. The di'erent parts or sections of the ticket are arranged horizontally from left to right lengthwise of the ticket, beginning with the agents stub which is followed by the passage coupons arranged in the sequential order of their use and ending with the contract portion at the right. Two or more passage coupons are employed in accordance with the different requirements. In the particular form shown two passage coupons are used, one for transportation over the initial line and one for transportation over the connecting line.
The agents stub'and each o-f the passage coupons is provided with. a list of` different 1 routes, each route consisting of a junction 40 on the initial line and a railroad or line connecting with the initial line at suchA junction. For example, in the form shown, the list comprises eight different junctions which are assumed to be located upon the Interline Railway and the names of the connecting lines are associated with the respective junctions. The vnames of the junctions and connecting lines are arranged upon the agents stub and iin each of the passagecoupons ina vertical column and preferably, as shown, the different routes.V
are consecutively numbered. Each of these columns is also provided with a corresponding vertical column or row of stars or like punch guides. As indicated in the draw ing, the numbers and the punch guides are Specification of Letters Patent.

arranged along the right hand margin of the agents stub and alternately along the left and right hand margins of the succeeding passage coupons. Preferably, also, as shown, when the ticket contains an even number of coupons, a similar row of stars or punch guides are located along the left hand margin of the contract portion.
Each of the sections of the ticket, including the agents stub and the contract portion, is provided with a properly designated space c at the bottom of the list of routes for the destination. In the particular form shown, the destination is adapted to be written in the space with pen and ink. Below this space, each section of the ticket is provided with properly designated spaces and c for indicating halfl and 2d class, and also with a space l marked 13. C. for punching the ticket to cancel the same for baggage.` The indicating spaces b, c and d are preferably arranged as shown below and in. line with the columns of stars or punch guides opposite the list of routes. Each section of the ticket is also provided with the form number and with a space e for the ticket number. The agents stub and the passage coupons are provided at the eXtreme bottom portions with the name of the issuing line and which name is also inserted at the top of the contract portion. The passage coupons are also preferably provided with properly designated spaces f to receive the punch marks of the different conductors. The contract portion is provided at its right hand edge with the usual date staff g for indicatingy the limit of the ticket.
The passage coupons are provided with different captions which extend across the top of the ticket where they readily catch the eye. These captions are preferably emphasized by printing the same in heavy, bold faced type. These captions indicate the dilferent portions of the journey for which the respective coupons are good. Thus, for example, the first passage coupon contains the name of the issuing or initial line and indicates that the coupon is good from thestationon the initial line stamped on its back to the junction point indicated by a punch mark. The caption of the second coupon indicates that it is valid from the junction and over the line indicated by the punch mark to the destination written in the space a.
The agents sabana are 'Coupes escasas are separated by weakened vertical lines i and the last passage coupon on the contiact portion is separated by a vertical line j, but
which is preferably not a weakened line. When the ticket is to be executed or issued, l l
rate junctions of the list and an associated it is folded upon the lines z, and j beginning at the left. The first passagecoupon is folded beneath the agents stub and the succeeding coupons are each folded beneath the preceding one. The columns of stars or punch guides and the indicating spaces b,
ve and l will all register along the right hand margin of the agents stub, so that the route and other details, as necessary, can be readily indicated by means of an ordinary single die punch. The instructions for issuing the ticket are preferably printed at the left hand part of the agents stub and this printed matter is vertically disposed, so that it can be easily read by the agent in issuing the ticket. The agents stub is also preferably provided at its upper portion with designated spaces L and M for indicating the route number for which the ticket is issued and the amount of the fare.
The improved ticket can be readily 'used for passage from any station on the initial Aline to any one of the junctions thereon and thence over the connecting line leading vfrom lsuch'junction to the destination on such connecting line. In this way a single form may be used from the stations on one line to the destinations on any one of a number of lines connecting with the initial lines at dilierent junctions. The ticket is easily issued or executed and is easily understood and read when issued. Furthermore, a complete record of the details of the ticket is provided upon the agents stub and also upon each of the coupons.
It `is obvious that changes may be made i without departure from the essentials of the invention as defined inlthe claims.
I claim as inyinventionzl. A multi-route ticket for transportal .4 tion over an initial line and a number ofconnecting lines comprising an agents stub sage coupons having a list of junctions along the initial line, the name of each junction being associated with the name of the line connecting therewith, the list of junctions v andthe list of connecting'lines being ar- -Copies of this patent may be obtainedY for ranged in separate vertical'columns and alternately disposed on said passage coupons adjacent the lei't'and right hand margins thereof, said agents stub and said coupons having corresponding vertical columns of consecutive numbers designating the sepa- Y vertical column of punch indications, said column of numbers and punch indications being alternately arranged at theright and left hand margins of the coupons and adapted to register along one margin when the ticket is folded, and said coupons having separate captions arranged in separate columns across the top of the ticket and indi'- cating, by reference tothe lists thereon, the portions of the journey for which the respective coupons are valid and said agents stub and said passage coupons bearing the same form number and a suitably designated space for the name of the destination, substantially as described.
` 2. A multi-route ticket for transportation over an initial line and a number of connecting lines, comprising an agents stub, and two coupons good for passage to and from a number of junctions along the initial line, said passage coupons being connected agents stub and each ofsaid passage coupons bearing a list of the junctions along the initial line and the name oi' each junction being associated with the name of the `line connecting therewith, said lists of junctions and of connecting lines being arranged in separate vertical columns on said agents stub and said passage coupons and being associated with vertical columns of punch indications and of consecutive numbers for designating the separate junctions of the list, said vertical columns of punch indications being arranged to register along one margin of said agents stub when the ticket is folded beneath the same, said agents stub and each'of said coupons bearing the same form number and the name of the issuing line and a Vsuitably designated space for the name of the destination, and; each of said coupons having a different caption indicating by reference to the list of junctions and lines thereon' the portion of the journey for which the particular coupon is valid, substantially as described.
