Be it known that I, EDUARD ADOLPH CLosMANN, a subjectof the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Vienna, Austria-Hungary, have invented a new and useful Improvement Vin Buttoning Devices, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a buttoning device which is particularly adapted for high-band turned-down collars.

The buttoning device comprises two plates movably connected with each other in such a manner that one plate lies upon the other plate in the position of closure.

According to the present invention the two plates are connected in such a way that they are movable only in their own planes.

In the accompanying drawings two embodiments of the invention are illustrated; one of them is shown on an enlarged scale in Figures 1 and 3 in front elevation and plan respectively. Fig. 2 shows the buttoning device in connection with the collar in the open condition. Fig. 4c is a plan view of the device with the plates in the closed position. Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional view of the same device applied to a collar and in closed position. Fig. 6 is a front view of another embodiment of the invention. Fig. 7 is a vertical sectional view taken on line A-A of Fig. 6. Fig. 8 is a horizontal sectional view of the device when closed and applied to a collar.

Referring to the drawings and particularly to Figs. 1 to 5 it will be seen that the device comprises plates a, Z) which are slightly bent to suit the shape of the collar and are connected by the pivot c perpendicular to the planes of the plates a, Z9, so that by turning one of the plates through an angle of 180o it is caused to register with the other plate. The plate a is provided on its rear face with a button f and on the front face with a button, comprising a pin -or stud attached to the plate and two wings or members (Z, e, which are pivotally mounted on the outer end of said stud to turn about an axis extending longitudinally of the plate, whereby they can be adjusted to extend substantially parallel and at right angles to the plate to pass through a collar button hole and then into the positions shown in Fig. 1 to secure the plate to the collar. The plate b has on its front face a button g, supported by ahook-shaped tongue h. A recess is arranged in the plate b beneath the tongue it.' A liat spring y' attached to the plate a serves to hold the plate b in the closed position.

The buttoning deviceis attached to the collar in the following manner: The plate a is attached by means of the button f to the Shirt collar and by means of the button .wings d, e to the short ap m of the collar.

The button g of plate b is introduced in the the button hole of the long Hap n of the collar. On inserting the long flap n between the interior and exterior part of the opposite end of the collar (Fig. 2) the plate is turned through an angle of about 180 to make it register with the plate a, said plate b beingthus positioned between the collar flaps m, a. The recessz encompasses the pin of the pivotable wings d, e while the tongue L lies in front of the interior part of the collar upon the wings d, e. The buttons f, d, e and g now are all alined (Figs. Il and 5). The lat spring j bearing on the plateb holds the plates a, Y) in the closed position.

Referring to the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 6 to 8 the two plates a, Z) are slidably connected with each other in horizontal direction in such a manner that the plate b is guided on the plate a. For this purpose the horizontal edges of the plate a are bent forward to form a guide in which the plate b is slidably arranged. The button fl which is to be inserted in the button hole of the short flap m is fastened to the lower bent over edge of the plate a, to permit the sliding motion of the plate b. The button g is attached to the ront face of the tongue z, of plate b. Ths tongue h is formed by an extension of the plate b bent forward. The connection of the flaps m n of the collar with the plates a b is performed in the manner already described with reference to Figs. 1 to 5. The collar is closed by shifting the plate b over the plate a and is held in closed position by spring j.

The described buttoning device enables the collar ends to be easily connected and disconnected; it also permits the high-band turned-down collar to be loosened whenever desired without the necessity of removing the collar from the shirt or of taking oi the neck tie.

I claim:

1. A collar buttoning device comprising two plates one adapted to be engaged with the neck band of a shirt and With a collar adjacent one end thereof and the other adapted to be engaged With the collar adjacent the other end thereof, and means connecting said plates and permitting relative movement thereof, to move the ends of the collar to or from overlapping position, only in planes substantially parallel to the faces of the plates.

2. A bnttoning device comprising tWo plates, a button on the rear face of one of the plates, a button on the front face of the same plate, a button on the front face of the other plate, and a pivotal connection hen tween the plates, the axis of which extends perpendicular to the planes of the plates.

3. A collar buttoning device comprising two plates one adapted to be engaged With the neck band of a shirt and with a collar adjacent one end thereof and the other adapted to be engaged with the collar adjacent the other end thereof, means connecting said plates and permitting relative movement thereof, to move the ends of the collar to or from overlapping position, only in planes substantially parallel to the faces of the plates, and means acting to retain the plates in closed relation.

4. A buttoning device comprising tvvo plates, a button on the rear face of one of the plates, a button on the front face of the same plate, a button on the front face of the other plate, a pivot pin connecting the plates and extending perpendicularly thereto, and a spring attached to one of the plates and engaging the other plate when the device is closed.

5. A collar buttoning device comprising a plate provided on its rear face With a button adapted to be engaged by a hutten hole in the neck hand of a shirt and on its front face with a button adapted to be engaged by a button hole adjacent one end of a collar, a second plate having an extension situated in a plane in front of the first saidv f plate and provided on its front face adjacent its free end with a button adapted to he engaged by the button hole at the other end of the collar, and means connecting said plates, whereby by relative movement of the plates the ends of the collar Will he drawn into overlapping position and the buttons on the front faces of the plates into sulostan tial alinement.
