To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER L. HADLOCK,
a citizen of the United States, residing at ray, in the county of Yuma and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pawl-and-Ratchet Mechanism, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an attachment for a dispensing spout and the principal object of the invention is to providea device which can be carried by the stationary portion of the spout and connected with the removable portion of the spout so that when the removable portion of the spout is shifted from one receptacle to another, the counting device will be operated and a record kept of the number of receptacles filled.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved means for operating the counting device.
Another object of the invention is to so construct the mechanism of the counting device that one disk will move ten times be tween each movement of a second disk.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved actuating means for the shaft of the first disk, thus causing the shaft to move when the operating mechanism is moved in either of two opposite directions.
This invention is illustrated in the acco1npanying drawings wherein- Figure 1 is a side elevation of an outlet spout having the improved counting means connected therewith. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the counting device with the cover removed; Fig. 3 is a section taken along the line 33 of Fig. 2; Fig. l is a transverse sectional view taken along the line H of Fig. 2; and Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken along the line 55 of Fig. 2.
V The outlet spout comprises the inner stationary sectlon and the outer plvotally mounted section 11. This spout is provided with the pivotally mounted outer section so that the spout can be shifted from one position to another and thus the material passes from the spout fed into the desired receptacle. It is, of course, obvious that the counting device will be made in proportion to the size of the outlet spout, and that therefore the invention can be used for filling any size receptacle.

ger being provided with an opening let which is covered by glass or some other transparent material so that the disk to be hereinafter described may be seen. This box is provided with a flooring which comprises the side strips 15 and 16, end strips 17 and a cross bar 18 which is positioned between the side strips 15 and 16 and at a point between the center of the box and the end opposite the end strip 17. Shafts 19 and 20 are rotatably mounted in bearings 21 carried by the side strips 15 and 16 and are provided with disks 22 and 23 respectively which are engaged by the free ends of the spring-brake rods 2% and Counting disks 26 and 27 are rigidly mounted upon the shafts 19 and 20, the disk 26 carrying pins 28 and the disk 27 carrying a finger 29 which extends beyond its edge so that the finger may engage the pins 28 to turn the disk 26. It will thus be seen that while the disk 27 is makingone complete rotation that the disk 26 will only make a part of a rotation. The disk shown in the drawing is provided with ten of the pins 28, but it is obvious that as many pins could be provided as desired, and thus the counting could be carried as high as wanted.
A rocker bar 30 is pivotally connected with the cross bar 18 by means of the pivot pin 31 and carries pivot ears 32 and 38 upon opposite sides of the pin so that the fingers 34 and 35 may be pivotally connected with the rocker bar. These fingers 3 1 and 35 extend through slots formed in a guiding plate 36 and have their free ends resting upon ratchet wheels 37 and 38 rigidly mounted upon the shaft 20 so that when the rocker bar is moved, the shaft 20 will be caused to rotate. It should be noted that the teeth of the ratchet wheels are placed in staggered relation so that when the rocker bar 30 is moved to bring the finger 35 forwardly and engage one of the teeth of the ratchet wheel 37, the finger 38 will move rearwardly and slip over one of the teeth of the ratchet wheel 38. Upon moving the rocker bar in the opposite direction, the reverse action will take place. It will thus be seen that the shaft 20 will be caused to rotate when the rocker bar is moved in either of its two possible directions.
A lever 39 is pivotally mounted beneath the flooring and has its upper end portion extending between the side bar 15 and side well Of the box so that the upper end of the lever will extend into the slot 40 of the rocker bar 80. This lever extends beneath the box and is connected With a collar ll mounted upon the movable section 11 of the outlet spout by means of a link 42. It Will thus be seen that when the movable section of the outlet spout is moved-upon its pivot pin a3 that the lever 39. will be rocked upon its pivot pin a4 and cause its inner end to move the plate 30 and cause the shaft 2O to be rotated, as already described.
When this device is in use. a receptacle is positioned beneath the outlet spout and filled. The outlet spout is then moved so that it Will be positioned above a second receptacle and this second receptacle is then filled While a new receptacle is being put in the place of the first receptacle which has been removed. As the outlet spout moves, the disk 27 is rotated to cause the numeral 1 to appear in front of the opening thus indicating that one receptacle has been filled. As soon as the second receptacle is filled, the outlet spout is returned to its original position and the disk Will then be moved to show the numeral 2. It should be noted that the transparent covering for the opening la has its central portion 45 colored to prevent more than one numeral showing at the same time. As soon as ten of the receptacles have been filled, the finger 29 will engage one of the pins'28 and move the disk 26 to cause the numerall to appear. The numeral of the two disks will noW be read together and the machine Will thus indicate that ten receptacles have been filled.
The brake rods 2% and 25 engage two disks 22 and 23 and prevent any danger of the disks 26 and 27from being moved beyond the desired amount.
What is claimed is: V
A device of the character described comprising a housing, a shaft rotatably mounted in said housing, ratchet Wheels rigidly mounted upon said shaft and having their teeth positioned in staggered relation, a rocker bar pivotally mounted in said housing, hinge brackets pivotally connected with said rocker bar, fingers pivotally connected Withsaidjhingebrackets and having their free ends engagingsaid ratchet Wheels, and aguiding strip mounted in said housing and provided with cutouts through" Which said fingers pass to guide the longitudinal move:
