To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CARL Ransom HUNT, citizens of the United States, residing at Node, in:the county or workman.
' and 11.
erence will be had to the accompanyingdrawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which a Figure 1 is a side elevation of a. track lining ack constructed in accordance with the invention, and showing the device in' position for alining a section of track; Fig. 2, a plan view of what is shown inFig. 1, and Fig. 3, an end view of same.
Referring to the drawings the improved track lining jack is shown as comprising a base member A formed of spaced angle irons 10 and 11 connected together in any suitable manner. Pivoted between the angle irons 10 and 11 is a rail engaging lever 12 one end of which is forked to form arms 13 The jack further comprises a toothed arm 15 having one end pivotally mounted between the irons 10 and 11, while the other end thereof extends between the arms 13 and 14. An operating lever 15 is pivoted between the arms 13 and 14;, the end thereof adjacent the lever 12 being. forked to form arms 16 and 17 between which are pivotally mounted pawls 18and 19 adapted WV, DEAN and specification of Letters Patent. 1 Patented Fb, 71916,

angle lever, 20 one end of which is connected to the lever 12 by link 21. In the use of the device the base A is placedbeneath the rail section to be lined horizontal position, in which disposition of the lever 12 the pawls l8 and 19 will engage end of saidarm. The operating lever 15 is then'moved upwardly on the pawl 19 as a pivot. This movement of the operating lever will raise the lever 12 and position the pawl 18 in engagement with another tooth of the arm 15. The lever 15 is then moved downwardly with the pawl 18 'as'a pivot and the pawl 19 thus engaged with an advance tooth on the arm 15. The lever 15 is then again elevated which will further raise the freeen'd of thelever 12'and force the rail laterally. This operation. is repeated until the rail is properly lined. During this operation the angle lever 20 and the inner end of the lever 12 willbe forced into the ground and act as a brace to assure efficient operation of the device-by positively holding same against slipping What is claimed is and the lever 1-2 disposed in substantially the teeth of the arm 15 adjacent the inner 1. A. track lining jack comprising a base 7 member, aniarm pivoted to said base member, a rail engaging leverpivoted to the base member and slidably engaged at its free end with said arm, and an operating lever pivoted to the rail engaginglever and engageable with said arm when moved in one direction to elevate the free end of the rail engaging lever. 2. A track lining ack comprising a base member, a toothed arm pivoted to said base member, a rail engaging lever pivoted to i the base member and slidably engaged at.
its free end with said arm, an operating lever pivoted to the rail engaging lever, a pawl pivoted to the operating lever and engageable with the teeth of the arm when said operating lever is moved in a direction to raise the freeen d of the rail engaging lever, and a second pawl pivoted to the operating lever and engageable with the teeth of the arm to support the rail engaging lever during opposite movement of the operating lever;
3. A track lining jack comprising a base member, an arm pivoted to sald base member, a rail engaging lever pivoted to the base memberand slidzildly'engaged'zit its free end 7 In teti'mony whereof, We affiXbursignawith said arm, an operating lever pivoted times, 'in the presence Of two Witnesses. to the" rail engaging lever and engfige'able I T with said arm when moved in one direction 5 "to elevate the free end of the'rail engaging,
